Try moving any card to a different PCI slot, windows will flip out and reinstall the driver for the thing, Linux won't even care...
Move your NIC, windows will install a second driver for it, losing ALL the settings for the thing...
Install a new mother board, when you boot windows you will have no cdrom, and it will try to install drivers for the disk controller, but you can't use the cdrom to access your friggin win98 disk! To fix this, boot off a floppy and load some dos cdrom drivers, then boot windows and you have access to your cdrom again.

I(a geek myself), do not like the way Katz makes so many assumptions about geeks. We are all individuals. We all have our own likes/dislikes, political views, OS preference, etc..
Currently computers are way to difficult for average people, but that is changing. Most teenagers these days can learn to use a computer very quickly. And for those who will never learn to install new hardware, most everyone has a computer literate friend who can install the latest and greatest video card to play the latest and greatest games.
What does intelligence and superiority have to do with being an animal or not? We just happen to be the smartest animals on the planet. Or at least the only ones with hands and a voice box with large enough brains to do the stuff we do.
If us killing them was a part of natural evolution, then us bringing them back is too.

Yes, you are correct, for now. The nVidia drivers are admittedly shitty, they're waiting for XFree86 4.0.
So just wait for 4.0, these things will all be greatly improved. You may be able to help by writing to linux distributors and showing your concerns, and hopefully persuading them to help with the XFree86 effort!
Now that you got that stuff off your chest and you feel better and all, you now have something to look forward too! =)
