XP Lite does remove it. And as for still having iexplore.exe when you have explorer.exe, that is completely wrong. explorer.exe just uses the mshtml rendering engine, same as ie. The xp lite remover removes both ie and the mshtml engine.

Your friend needs to market to the right people. There are a lot of people who arent penny pinchers and will pay to get the thing fixed. We dont just run up the bill though. If the fix looks like it will take longer than the cost of a new computer we always suggest it to them. Some want a new system, some just want the old familiar one to work again.

Not many of the techs from Geek Squad would know what to do about the mouse problem. I work for a competitor and we go to 4 or 5 calls a week just because Geek Squad really made the computer worse. They made it so much worse that the people called us to fix it instead. They seem to push new parts more than fixing anything.
Funny you should say that. Thats exactly what my laptop is setup to do. GRUB loading up and showing OS X, GENTOO, and XP as its three options is a beautiful thing.

Another funny thing is that the SP2 I install on everything doesnt do the genuine check. Yet another point would be that the check for genuine windows is rather new, way newer than SP2 and so anyone could have done it before that check, if that is the problem.

The first spoofing tool I used on irc (EFNet) actually did cache poisoning. I know there are the tools that only did the reverse lookup spoofing. But the cache poisoning was done way back when. I believe (and I could be mistaken) that a guy by the name of johan wrote one of the first ones.

You can get rid of it just fine. Use a tool like XP Lite or IERadicator. Rips it right out of the system and windows still works just fine.
