    I'm not sure how this kind of thing is the result of making prostitution illegal.

    Were prostitution not illegal, the girls would not had been lied to about the purpose of travel to US, and there would be no reason keep them prisoner.

    Not lying but embellishing.
    Lets say you work for a company, and one day you go and perform some work at your customers site, while the customer pays to your employer and not to you.
    You just have been sold right?

  7. This might shock you, but outlawing prostitution actually makes a lot of sense. A non-trivial portion of prostitutes are not willing.

    Thats rather the result of prostitution being outlawed.
    Make prostitution legal and there will be flood of new willing prostitutes, and thus no need to force anyone to it.

  8. I hope this Ubuntu on Windows leads eventually to extended kernel POSIX support, as the Cygwin POSIX emulation is extremely slow and in practice unusable for any serious IO based workload.
    I only wish they went with a RPM distro in first place.

    The circumstances just let the interested parties to push against privacy with a higher chance of success than in other cases.

    People tend to drive at the highest speed at which their estimate of the danger is still negligible.
    Increasing the real danger by removing the lines, mandating zig-zag parking etc. causes the drivers to slow down to maintain their estimate.
    The result is slower traffic at the same or even higher danger level than before the change.

  21. The government over the territory was split between Israel and Palestine - not the private ownership. That in itself is quite benign thing - the Palestinians lived happily under the British government and could continue so under the Israeli government. However the Israeli army swept the land, forcing the Arabs out of their private properties. That IMHO ignited the hatred. As those people are still living in refugee camps after few decades, the situation is probably not going to calm anytime soon.

    Free government provided services are estimated to cost 3-4 times the paid equivalent, due to inefficiencies on the providing side and wasting on the consuming side.
