I've just sold my old K6-II 500 for R$ 100. I used to run Slackware 9.1 with no problems. My wife used to run WinXP + OfficeXP, and also some games like Half-life (ok, I used to play HalfLife).
Don't worry, WalMart will lower the price of CDs. That's how its bussiness works.
WalMart works with volume, everything it does is based on volume, it's impossible to reach its prices and profit without volume.
Lower prices to a level everybody likes and raise sells. With lower prices you'll bring costumers to your store, they'll buy not only CDs, but other goods too, and of course, you'll kill the other competitors, that's what they want.
If WalMart get what it wants they will raise theis sell and pass from 20% to 40%-50% of the sales.
Not that simple. Since Wal*Mart is responsible for 20% of the whole sales, RIAA must consider. It's suicide to cut 20% of the sales, specially considering that there are other ways to get music besides buying it at stores.
RIAA has nothing to complaint about. They have doing the same thing with us for years, but now they have found somebody as big as they are.
I really, really, really hope Wal*Mart gets what it wants.
#1. Party: Socialization will be very important in your future work. Be a geek, but be a geek that parties. Get drunk on weekends. Have some girls without paying money for them.
#2. Projects: Practice is the best way to learn. Go to class, take a few notes, then try to pratice. If your graduation is close related to computers this is even more easy. Usually professors always have good projects in which you can participate, talk to them.
#3. Enough grades: This item depends on what the market expects from you. Talk to several empleyers and try to discover what is enough for them, keep your self a little bit above the enough. If you focus too much in grades, you won't be able to focus in other more imporant things.
#4. Parents: Don't ever forget your parents. They are working really hard for you to get this opportunity. Always thanks them, and always visit them. Respect your parents, and raise your kids to respect them, and respect you.
Of course they won't point a single line of code. They'll wait more then a year and try to show something. And, of course, it will be so insane that it nobody will care.
The point here is that OSRM can't just point out every line of code that has copyright issues because they will have to pay if companies get sued. They need to show that it has copyright issues so they can capt clients, but can't show too much or the issues.
Draconian laws like these is shooting its own foot.
If this law passes development of new technologies will become too expensive to be held inside US. The costs involved in legal actions to avoid developer and researche team to get jail will make technologic industries emigrate to countries where there are no legal problems like this.
Investments in new technologies will still occur, but will occur in foreing countries, like India, China and Brazil. Good for them, terrible to US.
Migration of these companies will cause unemployment, and migration of talents to other countries. The education level will also get lower.
New technologies will be sold only outside US, in order to avoid lawsuits too. And the sales of technologic gadgets will lower considerable. A huge part of the American economy will be teared of.
The whole computer industry will flee from the country. Searching new countries where it can develop new technologies and distribute it through
the new globalized world.
The impact of such reactions in US economy will be so destructive that it can easily, in matter of 5 years, become the 10th biggest economy in the world, or even worse.
IMO this law should be carefuly considered by the US Senate, because the reactions will be very unpleasent to all US citizens.
and the guy who rubbed fresh lemons on his face before robbing a bank because someone told him that if you did that, the cameras could not pick up your image. True story according to "news of the weird", a syndicated feature found in many independent newspapers here in the US. They have stories like this all the time.
Hey, that really works. I've robbed a bank last friday and no cops here yet.
... Wait a second, there's somebody knocking my door...
Can you see how far did they come? The Country of Opportunities became The Country of Unopportunities. Nothing can be done without infringing a patent. It's not possible even to use a Double Click(tm) without using a patented idea.
The patent law is becoming a drawback to the development of new technologies. Companies now have to worry about research and development, in order to avoid lawsuits in the near future, and to spend even more to make a new product avaiable.
This is a major problem to US economy. It reduces the chances of small companies being sucessful, and big companies begins as small companies.
The consequences are simple. New high-tech players will grow in other countries, like China, India and Brazil, while companies in US will remain the same. The market that could be developed inside US will be developed around the world.
It's not such a bad thing for worldwide wealth distribuition, but also isn't a good thing for US economy.
Mom started with Solitaire, then other kind of card games. Then she discovered Boardgames, and I presented here Yahoo Games! Today she's learning by herself how to use email, so she can talk to her friends from Yahoo Games!
Good for her? I don't know. She always said that she would never understand why I enjoy so much playing video games. And now we have to tell her it's time to go to bed at 2 AM:o)
Four or five years from now.
I'll need a lawyer pretty soon.
They'll sue your for having grandchildren.
There's no need of more then 6 monthes since official launch until the DRM scheme is cracked.
You know I'm telling nothing but the truth.
Nothing else needed.
I simply can't believe it. Everything said about DRM protection and keeping CDDA compability is simply impossible.
Pay attention to this:
Everybody talks about medium convergence to personal computer, so neither RIAA nor MPAA can allow themselves to avoid computer programs.
DRM won't last. The only way to RIAA and MPAA survive is adapting themselves to the new reality of digital media. Or go back to vinyl.

It's a good machine:
Soyo Motherboard
RAM: 256 MB SDRAM PC133
Diamond Stealth III S540
SoundBlaster AWE32
It's a good option for those who only wants to use office suites.
NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOO!
That's the reality. Besides all other opinions you've said the most feaseable reality, and now it's what I really think it will happend.
Congratulations.
Wait wait wait...
If you add two more cents you'll raise final price in almost a dollar.
Keep this two cents out of the bill.

This has come too far. I feel really offended by SCO. I'm no bandit!
I'd like to know how can I sue SCO for this offence?
Not satisfied in offend the free software community SCO now is offending individuals. Enough is enough, it must stop NOW.

Try this:
let's pretend we are terrorized, so they'll think they are being effective.
i prefer being virtualy terrorized than personaly.

Is that software sold exclusevely on their website?

Don't forget that GM also owns a percentage of FIAT.
Now we can cite "If GM cars use windows"
