I don't understand the problem. Just write a counter-proposal, stating that if you stop using the software, then you are no longer obliged to pay for it.
Write this proposal on a 3x5 card, and send it to the company on a sealed envelope. Also, the card should state that opening the envelope constitutes agreement to the counter-proposal. If the proposal is not acceptable, then the envelope must be returned unopened.
what are the 'glaring holes' in professions ? holes for what ?
Tailoring, Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, and Engineering should have high level (BoP) armor sets, but none of them do. This wowhead search is for all BoP crafted items over level 78, as as you can see, there is not a single level 80 item in the list!
Crafting isn't the only glaring holes in this game. PVP armor from battlegrounds is completely missing too. You can spend hours farm honor and marks, but there is nothing to buy with them other than worthless battle potions:(
I'm a big fan of the game, but any review that gives the expansion 9/10 is just trying to avoid confrontation. Once a game has more than 10 million subscribers, it would be suicide to give a negative review!
Now, you can be sure that if a republican would have been pushing to expand on Bush's ideas, he would have been crucified for it, but if it is Obama, it's considered "change".
"We decided to tweak the two-dimensionality by applying a very large magnetic field, using the largest magnet in the world at the Magnet Lab in Florida," he said. "You only have access to it for about five days a year, and on the third day, something totally unexpected popped."
Gervais's "pop" was the startling transformation of a two-dimensional electron system inside the semiconducting material into a quasi-three-dimensional system, something existing theory did not predict.
"It's actually not quite 3-D, it's an in-between state, a totally new phenomenon," he said. "This is the kind of thing the theoreticians love. Now they're scratching their heads and trying to fine-tune their models."
They should write a new book:
"Dimension-hacking for fun and profit."
Looks like a room or building size Faraday Cage (a foil hat the size of your house!) might be the only defence...
Sure, that would work, but it wouldn't be as effective as simply adding noise into the system.
For starters, just have another keyboard connected to a usb hub, and press 50+ random keys per second on it. Those would all appear on the attacker's equipment, and would effectively hide your keypresses. Building a "noise creation" machine should probably be even easier.
Kids love to see the inside of computers. Believe me, it's like you're unveiling the mysteries of the universe to them.
Bring hardware that you can turn on while disconnected (fans, hard drives, power supplies). Assemble a working system (ie. hook it up to a monitor) without the pieces in any case.
Then, pull out a rackmount system (obviously something small, probably just a frame), and explain that placing the computer parts in them is like working with legos. I guarantee that this will work.
Many of the most recent Apple commercials emphasize how easy it is to "switch" from PC to Apple. You can even bring in your old computer, and they'll transfer your hard drive contents!
This is another bridge to help people make the switch. Apple loyalists will still buy Apple hardware. Most of them are scared of any homebuilt computers, and want to trust a large company to build and support their computer. This dongle is only going to be bought by the cheapskates, people who would have never come to Apple without it.
Apple obviously makes considerable profit off of both the hardware and software, but the profit margin on software is much higher(*). Apple should be happy to lose a few hardware sales in order to secure their place in software.
(*) Media and distribution costs are much lower than development costs, and dev costs are 0 for the n+1 unit
I've been following the news of this 6-core processor for a while, and the news articles about it in the past say that it is the last of the Penryn line for Intel. So, what ever happened to the Penryn V8 (8 cores)?
I think the US should have one time zone, and it should be based on NYC time. -5/-4 UTC for everybody! Who cares if California would have the sunset at 2230 today?
Fine by me, and I'm a native Californian.
In San Francisco, I can't make any calls after 1pm to East Coast offices and expect to get anything done. What the clocks say over there doesn't really matter.
I think you'd like India. The coutry is the size of two timezons, but they wanted to have common time for the whole country. So, all of India (and now Sri Lanka) are on IST, which is UTC+5:30.
We could do the same in the US. We have 4 time zones for the continental US, so we could standardize on UTC-6:30 for standard time and UTC-5:30 for the summer. If we want to include Alaska and Hawaii, we could change it to UTC-7:30.
so why on Earth is that guy getting compensated by Apple??
You should have read the article more closely. He's getting paid, because he's been hired by Apple as a consultant.
I clearly understand that line to mean that he's on the payroll, but not doing anything as an employee to warrant the pay, other than to exist as a PR ploy. There's nothing wrong with this. Apple is in the right, and this guy being paid by Apple provides supporters more ammo for laughing at the patent->sue focused lawyers who are bringing forward these frivolous law suits.
Exactly. Rather than complaining on Slashdot, send the Democratic Convention people an Email at tell THEM you are not happy.
I've been trying to tell the democratic party for years that they should be reducing taxes and government regulation, and they've consistently responded in the opposite direction.
Why would they ever listen to me about supporting my OS?
Government has no business being involved in religion or in schools.
American schools: brought to you by the same great people who created the USPS and Guatanamo Bay.
Give parents vouchers, and let them decide how to educate their children. If we let the government decide what to teach, than we're no better than the system used in the USSR. We cheered when they dumped socialism, yet we've allowed that same system (government control of gritty details) to control our kid's education. Gritty details include evolution or intelligent design. How did we get into such a mess that governments are deciding this stuff?
That may be the oldest recorded computer music, but the oldest computer music came from Altgeld Hall, at U of I.
The Illiac was the 4th computer ever built (modeled on the Eniac). Professors would mail in the jobs that they wanted to have run, and a computer operator would be there to run the machine 24x7. To catch buggy programs with infinite loop, the last bit of the output was routed through a speaker. As long as the operator would hear static, everything was fine, but if it started humming, then the program had hit an infinite loop.
One morning at 2am, the operator put in the next program on the file, sent in by one of the math professors on campus. It immediately began playing the school fight song!
Often, someone who is new to linux looks for all the books they can find with "linux" in the name.
Generally, if you are new to unix in general, you should get a good unix reference. I'd suggest Unix Power Tools by O'Reilly.
If you are an experienced unix user, and want to learn the specifics of Ubuntu linux, then this book seems very useful. It has both the gory details of the inner workings, and a guide to some of the application candy you may install for home use.
90%+ of the discussion assume that "teachers == government" is an accurate statement. If teachers are government, then they need to provide no persuasive statements on the matter. However, if they are citizens, than they have rights to do and say anything they want.
But, when are we finally going to reach a point where government and schools are not the same? A book publisher can say anything they want, because they are not part of the government. But teachers and schools are?
The government is always inferior to private-held companies in accomplishing tasks. It's been shown time and time again. Education is no different. Parents are up in arms because school districts are poorly run. They don't have the option of going to a different school district, or opening their own school to compete with the government schools. Until this changes, there will be a never-ending stream of stories like the one in the article.
I don't care if you are for evolution only, creation only, bits-and-pieces of all, or flying-spaghetti-monster theory. If you really want parents to be in control, you have to be in favor of school vouchers. Anything else takes that decision away from parents, and gives it to the government.
The obvious "solution" is to remove the stigma and laws prohibiting sex with minors.
It worked with homosexuals. What was previously classified as sodomy is now accepted and even glorified. If you continue to think that homosexuality is a sin (meaning against God's laws, not man's), then you are now classified as a homophobe.
The man-boy love association has already been formed, and I guarantee that over the next ten years, we'll see this sexual aberration (along with beastiality and multiple-partner marriage) normalized.
I don't defend TFA in this case. As others have said, video games, movies, internet, etc. are not the causes of such behaviors. As a Christian, I simply blame the natural depravity of man. FUD like this is published because someone wants to be the center of attention. It's not the InTERweBz fault, it just happened to be standing in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I'm glad that he has responded to slashdot, but I would have liked to see him answer a few more questions.
I've been a fan of Ron Paul for a very long time. I voted for him 12 years ago in my high schools "mock election". He continues to support limited government in all aspects of our life, pretty much a polar opposite of Hillary and Obama.
The main question I have for Ron regards education. We have slipped horribly by giving control of the school system to the government. Sure, our government isn't that bad. I can think of much worse governments out there. But, does it really matter? Why does the government decide what to teach our kids? Why do they decide whether to teach evolution or creation? Why do they decide where the children go for field trips? Why can't those decisions be given back to parents? Ron, what plan do you have to eliminate the government's role in education?
Putting in some kind of threshold, or tiered pricing system is good for the average consumer, but bad for the average person reading slashdot.
Thankfully, American consumers are rather stupid. Take your average customer who downloads an average of 50 MB/month. Give them the choice of a 5GB quota for $38, or an unlimited plan for $45. They'll choose the unlimited plan every time.
I don't understand the problem. Just write a counter-proposal, stating that if you stop using the software, then you are no longer obliged to pay for it.

It will be about as difficult for Windows 7 to be a better OS than Vista as it is for Obama to be a better president than Bush!
Windows 7 does "Windows things" faster.
It crashes faster, and picks up viruses faster!
Obama does "Politician things" faster.
He's not even officially in office and he's already managed to scare the market into a freefall!

Browsers that can work with multiple layout engines are not new.
People forget that Netscape 8's big feature is the ability to display pages with either the Trident or Gecko layout engine
Under Bush we all got "Stimulus checks" redistribution of wealth, we...
And now you're worried about socialism?
Welcome to last year.
With Obama's plan, we'll now be getting 8 stimulus checks each year instead of one.
Now, you can be sure that if a republican would have been pushing to expand on Bush's ideas, he would have been crucified for it, but if it is Obama, it's considered "change".

Sorry, but I won't use it unless it is called X12 or Y.
My brother works in Eureka, IL, (pop. 4871) and I think that it could easily be retrofitted into the type of community they have proposed.
Eureka, IL already has some historical significance.
It hosts Eureka College, which is Ronald Reagan's alma mater.
