Send me your money and I'll send you a lucky charm that is 100% guaranteed to keep intruders away! As a side-effect it may improve your server performance 5-10%!!!
Hmm, do you think that manual gearbox car with _three_ pedals and a stick you really should use all the time is superior to an auto? See what not-so-well-though-out analogies can do?
Yes, go to your mom, dad, sister - whoever you think is not geeky enough. Ask them whether they know that mouse wheel is clickable? Now watch them trying to do it... Yeah, great fun. Ask them whether they know that they can drag things with the right mouse button? BTW, Ask them what happens when you drag things with the mouse - will they get moved or copied or what? What exactly in what situation? So, how many points scored? Do you still think that simple mouse (that they probably like to handle with two fingers and release before clicking) is a bad thing for _them_?
Me - I trained myself to handle my mouse with both hands equally well:) No bash.org'ese replies please:)
Well, Newton? They jumped their time, true. One-button mouse? Don't forget that there was one-button mouse when 99% of PCs had zero-button mouse (none) before Win 3.0. Anyway - anyone have any idea how many units have they _already_ sold?
Really - "spidering" the country... Dear. Will they refresh the info every year? No? How often then? I now understand what all those flying cams are doing in HL2.
Whatever. Even if some bright guys working there many years ago figured out something really cool it is not a reason to sue _everyone_ now. Ask yourself this question - who will get this (pretty big) money? Definitely not those bright guys (I guess). Big research company, screwed on the market, hire law-cketeers, help destroying the industry. I don't see how it helps your national economy or technology progress.
"Intergraph said in a release that it expects to pay $11 million in legal expenses."..."The company created an intellectual property division in 2002 to protect its intellectual capital. Intergraph said that, since then, its IP protection and enforcement efforts have generated about $860 million in pre-tax income."
I'm sure that "classic-style" racketeer division would've cost them quite a bit less.
Who the fuck cares? I'm sure there are better topics in submission queue. And BTW - it is daytime in Europe now. There's been no much stories since early morning here. Is/. only for Californians? Really - OSDN - implement a stories selection/voting public process like for comments and fire the "editors" like the one in subject. (Mod at will).
I most definitely gonna buy one of those till summer. Pity that I can't quite afford it right now:( I try to keep my expectations on the lower side though. So far I have not seen anything that I would be happy with for home computer - Windows sucks ass (and _severely_ lacks good software these days, as funny as it sounds) and Linux is not for my desktop too (should I hide right now?). Yep - Linux OTOH makes a good server and Windows makes a good... uhm, waste of money? I never owned a Mac and hopefully it is close to what I'm looking for. I don't care much whether it's ultra tiny or it can render Toy Story. I just want to have something usable and fun to play with. Is it easy to program for these days?
"hould make is possible to make a cell phone for less than $25, bringing it into the realm of possibilities for low-level corporate giveaways, or a reasonable loss leader for getting people started on pay-as-you go mobile offerings"
Yeah, cool. But I'd much rather see them fix "Google Groups" (previously known as Usenet). Or - just for fun - fixing Web search so that it at least can search words with flexible endings (search = searches = searching) or to provide options to excluded "Buy! Buy! Buy!" spamming... I'm sure their suggestions box is full.
IE besides - "Web app" is a darn appropriate interface for a lot of things and definitely the single most widely spread and portable one. The inability to request a "callback" value from the server from the JS code is a huge PITA if you've ever tried programming those.
$(SUBJ) or is it me? I mean - when I had 1, 2, or even 3 relevant ads per search results page there was a remote chance that I'd check them out. Now - once I counted (IIRC) 16(!) ads per page very few of them if any were relevant. Plus they show tons of competing ads. I say that they are doing serious dis-service to their clients here. And BTW - no, I won't fucking buy Minolta Dimage Z2. What the... is that shit?
Ahh, I wouldn't say that they (or ISS men) are going into _space_, much less so the _stars_. It's an Earch orbit. 350-380 kms up from the surface. Just barely outside the athmosphere. Not that it's a piece of cake, of course.
"can anyone think of something commonplace, that at the time seemed like total utter snake-oil lubed bullshit?"
Software patents?

Fear not, Disney is working on it.
... travel the world! (May I have the job? :)

Congratulations! There are more /.ers than there are Chinese on the Net. Apparently.
US lawyers, do us all a favor and legalize yourselves out of existence. Please?

Americans, eh?
Sure, use www.google.ca, groups.google.ca.

YES! Finally. Now we just need a game that is available for Mac and not the PC and the Earth polars will swap. Or something.

Michael Clark usually runs corporate IT meetings, right? I mean - you can't just come with this buzzfest without due training.
... something to add. Immediately after posting the above tirade I went to google and searched for my name just for kicks. Imagine this:
Cyril Sale
New & used Cyril. aff

Thank you very much, Google! : )
