    When the release cycle is so long the only way to get acceptably modern versions of perl, Apache, postgresql, python, and the like is to either roll my own or hope backports has what I'm looking for, I stop appreciating it. Too many Debian server installations end up looking like roll-your-own distros.

    Which is exactly how Ubuntu has made progress: it's the Debian that had the ruthlessness about cutting largely irrelevant architectures and being prepared to prune the core package tree.

    Japan was an ally of Britain & co during World War I (and for longer than the Johnny-come-lately United States, I might add). Japan's involvement on the side of the Axis in WWII was in part a result of the Japanese feeling they didn't get treated fairly by their allies after WWI.

    Hell, R.A. Salvatore made his name based on a character with dark black skin. Good golly! How'd that ever get past the publisher?!
    Because people like, uh, Le Guin had proven you could sell sci fi and fantasy work with non-white characters, something which wasn't considered the case in 1966.

    (big hint here!... Stephen King can't blame skin color changes on the high suck level in almost all of the movies based on his work)
    No. He blames the fact that since Hollywood will most likely fuck up his work regardless, he sells to the highest bidder to ease the pain.

    A shame if there are legitimate users impacted along the line. DDoSing one server will fuck up the networks on the way, to the detriment of innocent parties.

    Please, you're behind the times. Almost the entire world of slash is driven by women. Half the time they're writing/reading about hot man-on-man action.

    Taiwain is already an IP haven to a certain extent - because China has been so sccessful at bribing/threatening other nations on Taiwan's status, they haven't signed up to some of the more insane aspects of international treaties such as WIPO. Because the US is a big supporter, they don't suffer much for it.

    Personally I'm quickest and express myself best in longhand, so there's no decent input device for me 8-/

    There are plenty of Bluetooth keyboards if you get sick of onscreen keyboards or handwriting input.

    The browser supports Flash. I'd be surprised if it didn't support JS. And besides, you can get Opera for Symbian devices.

    Whereas I want a device that has organiser capability, at a minimum. If it's going to have my addressbook, why not my to-do list? And why should I lug around a Palm and a phone?

    It looks, in fact like a better Palm than anything Palm makde. Higher res screen, better form factor, and with a built in phone.
