If you want easy then mandrake was the right way to go. If you looked up the whole purpose of Gentoo maybe you'd realise why the install took as long as it did. You might have also noticed the excellent handbook documentation regarding the install process.
Although, if your short on time, don't go this route, a precompiled package based distro would be more to your liking.
cut the xbox cord before the breakaway connecter, cut an old usb cord open, connect the wires that are the same color, connect the yellow one to the bare usb wire, download the xbcd controller drives for windows and *poof* controller for xbox and windows...
buy a cheap xbox cable extender and you didn't even waste a controller.
At the rate alot of consoles are going, pushing to have something out for that long seems like wishfull thinking to me. I have a feeling the PS4 will be out the door by then...
openexchange? open groupware? if you wish you can attach outlook directly to openexchange, you'll _never_ know that its a linux based server. lots of pda conduits for linux, and as mentioned above, if your still using the outlook client, nothing extra needed.
btw, do you actually alot of edit of docs/presntations/spreadsheets on your pda? i've seen the software out for palm/pocket pc but i'm wondering how usable it is? If it is it may get me off a Palm III and onto something with a bit more guts.
As a 7 year linux user who has just recently switched to freebsd i would say thank you very much. originally i made the switch from linux to freebsd on any servers (still 1 or 2 left running linux) but after install bsd on my laptop my last concern was the nvidia driver, which was always maintained outside of nvidia up until this point.
The linux driver performed very well, hopefully the freebsd driver will get up to it's speed and i can get slackware off of my laptop and start running an easier to maintain OS.
You either don't know php, don't know enough to be effective, or are one of those people who requests that they need 3 webservers and 3 database servers just to put an average of 20 to 30k of information on a webpage per hit.
Just for reference: http://apachetoday.com/story/2002-06-04-001-06-PR- DT-PH.html
php is being used by thousands of large corporations to run some very vital data, usually off of PostgreSQL, mySQL, or in some cases Oracle.
I've been doing java, php, asp, sql, etc. for a few years now, in many mixed environments.
I've come to the conclusion that VI --> www.vim.org is my editor of choice. Sure it dosen't function the sames as DOS EDIT or notepad in the respect of navigation (it does in insert mode) but if you give it a shot for a few days and print out the 2 million page user manual (ok.. about 5 of those pages will give you the basics) you may find that you like it.
It does have it's perks. It's open source, it's free and it runs on ANYTHING (unix, linux, dos, windoze, os/2, macintosh, beos, etc...)
I found it to be a great, well written (it's been in development for years and years and years) editor for programmers, mainly because, well, it was written by programmers. (you know it's well written when it's only on version 6.0 and it's been around for 12+ years)
Give it a wirl.
and lets not even GET into the emacs discussion here...
Hi, i just wanted to add a couple comments on the menu/key combo discussion.
I am a pc user who ended getting stuck on a mac for about 2 years with a web development company i used to work for, needless to say, i'm back on pc's. But being on the mac was a very pleasent change (except i had to go home after work, fire up the pc and load up something that took advantage of 3d acceleration)
Anyway... for the first week i used a mac i was stuck using the menus since i didn't really know the key combo's.
Well, if yor a mac user and you don't, learn em, you'll love em.
The standard in typing is "asdf" and "jkl;" (home row) and since the apple key is located where your alt key is try thinking of this.
Why the hell would i want to close a program with "alt+F4" when i could hit "alt-q" (q = quit, alt=apple key)
Or close a window with "ctrl-F4" when i just have to hit "alt-w".
Try these combo's out, notice, you hand NEVER has to leave home row (keep your right hand on the mouse) Apple rox for this kinda stuff.
I did notice that in early versions of KDE the ctrl and alt key were reversed so that you could use the mac like functionality, haven't looked at 2.0 so i'm not sure.
I thought that they stopped giving out vacations in 1990 with the coming of web browsers and isp dial-up accounts i loved bbs's and muds......
Then they came out with web tv and f*cked the whole thing
Now programmers just sit there and write a site 3 times over to make it compatible with ie, nutscrape, and webtv.
Had there been standards we wouldn't be sitting on our ass writing all this g0d damn f*'n javascript over and over again.. thank god for Server Side java huh?
Thanks for your time.. bitterness sourness i say, bitterness and sourness.. thanks for making at least one standard:)
Agreed, i've got a P133 libretto with 32 megs that could use a good browser to run @ 640x480 with fvwm too

scratch that, i read the _good_ part of the article, not the fact that it would only run for 3 hours when it's actually doing something :)
"One full day operation in low-power mode"... bit more than 3 hours don't you think..

looks like an 8500 powermac to me, never really realized, when illustrated that way how similar they looked to a standard beige pc though.
well.. that was useless now wasn't it?
Maybe they will start using Symbols like in Super Mario Brothers :)
