1. The person was STILL breaking the law, and risking their life to shave a few minutes off of their trip.
2. The vehicle may have been branded as "self driving" but it was also branded as being tested, hence the person that was supposed to be taking control in the event of a hardware failure.
Yeah, it's a tragedy that somebody died, but the hardware was still being tested - it was expected that there would still be some hiccups and failures along the way. The true cause of the fatality is 45% negligence on the pedestrian for not crossing at a legal crossing, 45% negligence on the beta tester of the vehicle for not taking control, and 10% hardware failure.
If the person could handle the simple task of legally crossing the street, this wouldn't have happened. As a pedestrian myself it absolutely blows my mind just how stupid people are... Even if I have the right of way, in the event of Car VS Human, I'll probably be the one in worse shape. People are impatient as fuck, and are willing to risk their entire life just to shave a few minutes off of their trip.
I get that the sensor fucked up, but if the company had 100% trust in the hardware, they wouldn't need a driver in the vehicle. The cars are basically still being beta tested - mistakes are to be expected and corrected. This entire situation could have been avoided if the two humans involved had have been paying attention and using some common sense.
1. The pedestrian was J-Walking 2. The driver was paying no attention to the road. 3. The sensor wasn't able to respond in time.
I think the nVidia chip is the last thing that should be faulted here. We have two clear cases of human stupidity to blame before the chip comes in. They should just re-brand it as "Computer Assisted Driving" instead of "Self-Driving".
That site looks a whole lot like Facebook... is there a framework available that looks and functions that similar to FB? I'm actually interested in checking it out.
Was that even a legal crossing? If she was Jay-walking she 100% doesn't have the right-of-way. And even if she does, as a pedestrian you have to ask yourself "Even if I have the right of way, whose going to come out better in the event that somebody isn't paying attention? Me, or the car?"
That's not true, and as a frequent pedestrian myself, even though I may have the right of way I'm still going to lose in the battle of Me VS Vehicle. Better off to just wait the extra few seconds-minutes to safely cross. It blows my mind how many people are willing to risk it all just to shave a few minutes off of their trip.
Yeah, whenever I hear about shitty ass phones in the US, it's always the ones sold by Verizon. I'd go with a different carrier if you can... one that at least gives the slightest hint that the give a fuck about their customers.
Seems like a ton of Canadian radio stations have jumped on this bandwagon as well. The app is horrible, and it's nearly impossible to find the "recently played" list online anymore. The older, non-unified system worked way better. Sure it wasn't as easy to search for things but the streams were far easier to access, as were the playlists.
And if they don't, then somebody will just edit the Wiki page to match the crap being spouted by the YouTube video, then add said video to the list of Wikipedia sources.
What's worse is how the Ribbon in Outlook 2017 changes depending on where you are.
IE: If you're in your Inbox, the HOME tab will be all about sending email and shit, but if you go to DELETED ITEMS suddenly you get "Recover Deleted" and a bunch of other shit. It's completely unintuitive and garbage. Menus were great because you could access settings regardless of where you were. Now you have to remember which section to go to in the program (totally dropping whatever the fuck you were working on) and then remember which ribbon tab to go to, and where in the mess of icons the button is that you're looking for.
The FBI can use the backdoored devices for a year or so to make sure they're super safe... then we can all laugh and watch as their private data spills all over the internet.
I wish I had mod points today :(
Most companies probably have more than enough data on everybody already...

This is something they should have done about 8-10 years ago. FB has more than enough dirt.
Better let it die and create a better film festival in its place.
Doesn't it only have the ability to do this for the people that gave it permission to access SMS on their device? Seems kind of click-baity.

Maybe they should consider releasing it in more countries... then I wouldn't have to constantly be using hacked apk's to get adblocking on YouTube.

Does this mean we can robocall the absolute shit out of Ajit and the FCC?
Agreed. I'm sure they'll spin this as a smear against self-driving vehicles... but realistically, the human was 100% in the wrong.

I'm hoping Treble will fix this. Custom ROM's are a huge part on why Android devices are so much better than their competition.
Run AOSP, don't install Gapps.
My Galaxy S5 is running Oreo... Just because the manufacturers and carriers drop the ball doesn't mean the homebrew community isn't there.

I've been wanting it for 15+ years.
I've been saying this needs to be a thing since at least 2002. It's about fucking time they finally decided to add it.

Probably a lack of new neurons
