  1. Everybody is jumping on the "Should not be allowed" option, but are missing the fact that skimming this kind of stuff means more monitoring of "private" conversations.

How would they catch people asking minors for nudes? How frequently are they scraping IM conversations right now as it is? Would the filtering only be placed on conversations of accounts who have identified themselves as under 18? What about people that lied about their age online?

While I certainly don't condone people trying to get nudes of minors, I'm also curious/worried about how they would put a system in place to monitor the chats prevent it from happening.

  5. Thanks man - I'm the one the other guy replied to, but you beat me to the draw on the comment and nailed it head-on.

  6. cloud service benefits

I'm still trying to figure out the benefits of storing your data on multiple servers that you have no control over, and no idea where exactly they are. When you delete a file from the cloud, is it actually properly deleted? If the cloud is attacked, how long will it take for the parent company to admit they were hacked? I like the concept of cloud storage, but I have 0 trust or faith in that system at all.

  7. Companies seem to love inefficiency on Airlines Won't Dare Use the Fastest Way to Board Planes (wired.com) · · Score: 1

Look at grocery stores... one line per checkout, means you're fucked if you get stuck behind somebody that needs a price check, or is price matching everything in their buggy. One long line that feeds into the individual checkouts would be way WAY faster. But will we see it? Nope. If something that simple can't even be done properly, I doubt airlines will ever figure out efficiency.

  8. What probably happened: too many people tried to cash out their crypto coins for real money, but Coinbase didn't have enough to cover it... so they pulled this stunt to quickly acquire enough real $$ to pay the people trying to convert.

Hashtags weren't anything new. Other sites like del.icio.us and Livejournal had been using them for some time (and far more appropriately, too). The limited messaging made little to no sense, either. I still don't understand why Twitter exists.

Even stranger to compare is Myspace VS Facebook, and Facebook VS G+. I think if Google had have waited a bit longer, they probably could have taken over - with the reports that we have been seeing lately of people leaving Facebook, it would have been a great time for Google to reveal G+ and a new place for people to move to.

Google doesn't push GPM down the throats of its users. The mobile app has some issues but it's the best service of them all as far as my preferences go.

As for Google Plus, I've never understood why it didn't take off. It's lacks a false sense of security, and has some pretty solid communities. One benefit of it being less popular is that it also has fewer morons on it.

  20. I have no idea what you're getting at, but okay... all I was trying to say was that as an Android user, I don't have to fear Mama Google pulling away apps, because the developer has the option to release the program as an APK and distribute the software that way. You can also run Android totally free of Google Services if you really wanted.

  21. Difference is that the Android version could be distributed via APK in other, easy ways whereas the Apple version is pretty much fucked.
