32 bit processors top out at 2GB of RAM without resorting to trickery.
Nope - they max out at 4GB. I'm not gonna say no one will ever need more than that, but it's not gonna happen in the near future, at least on the desktop.
anti-aliased fonts, copy-cut-paste between applications
I'll be the first to admit that Linux isn't exactly perfect, but all GTK2 and QT2-3 apps (plus OpenOffice and Mozilla) support AA. And copy+paste hasn't been a problem for years.
It's kind of hypocritical to talk about sites that just don't work in Mozilla and other browsers, and that you shouldn't support companies that make sites like that but when a site like this works only in Mozilla it's just fine
The page is valid XHTML. If IE can't render it, that's its problem. Most of the IE-only pages are not standards-compliant, and that's the problem.
about:config will show all of your current preferences and (in recent builds) allow you to edit them. Other than that and about:plugins, I don't think there are any more interesting about: eggs.
I think my eyes and back would really be strained reading an entire novel off my monitor.
Get a >= 19" monitor, running at >= 1600x1200. Use a browser/OS with decent font rendering, such as OSX, WindowsXP, or the xft2 versions of Mozilla for Linux. Set font size to 150% or so. Change to whatever color scheme you desire. With those settings, it's really not that hard to read online books.
There's nothing in my comment that isn't revealed in the first chapter or two. Even if there was, you should be prepared for spoilers when you read a/. review and then the comments on it.
The P tag doesn't indent. only indents one space. Using a lot of them is just as kludgy as using a 1-pixel gif. The cleanest way involves CSS, but that's problematic in older browsers.
In the book (which I have read), the Singularity is when Prime Intellect happens upon principles of physics that allow it to basically do whatever it wants - stuff like modifying any matter anywhere in any way and transporting it instantly to anywhere. Since the Three Laws require it to help humans, it goes and cures cancer, disarms all nuclear weapons, etc. It creates new processors and expands itself as necessary, to become the governing force of the universe. Since it now has the power to prevent death, it is required to under the First Law.
The Death Jockeys are people that do stuff that would make them die in real life; but since Prime Intellect doesn't allow that, they don't die - they just respawn like you would in an FPS.
And they will continue to be over and done with for several more decades, while still turning out incredible computers.
$ wine ./3dmark2003.exe
Total 3DMarks: 2

There's LiteStep, and there's Geoshell.
They don't have to, because the makers of nonportable software do it for them.

For the record, Gnome 2 is generally faster and has lower system requirements than Gnome 1.4.
Canada, maybe. That would be unconstitutional in the US. Not that Congress cares about the Constitution these days.
As opposed to unlicensed broadcasts with a license? :-)
You try buying a 20GB 1.5-inch hard drive for $12.

It is XHTML, you dummy.

Child pornography is images of children engaged in sex. Erotic sotories containing children are perfectly legal, being free speech.
It was on k5, among other places.

You mean like SDL?

Fuck - replied to the wrong thing.
It could be argued that Hell is not in the known universe (jokes about women aside).
It's not particuarly pretty, but the High Contrast Inverse theme included with gnome2 is white on black for everything, including textboxes.
What is it about gnome 2 that you don't like? There are very few configuration options removed - they're just hidden in gconf.
I don't know about that. McVeigh may have "blended in" by some standards, but you can hardly say the Sept. 11 bunch did.
