That reflects my thoughts as I was searching for a Christmas gift in a jewelry store yesterday. There were all these little gold and silver, jewel encrusted crosses in the store. I was thinking how peculiar anyone living at the time of Christ would have thought these little torture instruments. Had they peered into the future and seen these they might have concluded that it was the Romans we were holding in reverence. Also, I thought it was an interesting contrast, the expensive jewelry with a Christian symbol with pronouncements about the fate of the wealthy, "a rope through the eye of a needle" and so forth.
I was a member for a while. I had the same experience that you had with really smart people who told me they couldn't get into Mensa. Additionally, I met many members that I thought were lacking in what I thought of as intelligence. I concluded a long time ago that there is no legitimate way to quantify intelligence. About half the Mensa members I knew agreed with that. The other half were insulted by it.
Apparently the FreeBSD developers have seldom met their own schedule estimates. They don't really think it's important to do so. They estimate October, by December if you ask them when it will be released, they answer, "when it's ready". Their setting of fund raising goals may be similar to their scheduling. They're not good at managing expectations. I don't think FreeBSD will be going away any time soon. How many Linux distributions have failed to meet their fund raising goals from time to time and yet are still very active?
In the U.S. there's no law requiring the employer to pay for holidays, vacation, sick time, etc. Many people get paid only for the time they spend at work and make only enough money to keep their bills paid. Remember that when you visit the U.S. and eat in a restaurant, the people preparing your food might have the flu, but they're still working because they can't afford to lose a day's pay.
Some people are just asking to be killed and the only thing keeping them alive is this silly law that says you can't kill them. I think that maybe every 10 years or so we should just legalize murder for a month or two. Let's give everyone the opportunity to go out and whack somebody. I'll bet that 99.99% of the people who get killed will be people that the world will be better off without.
I Have Anecdotal Evidence that Proves My Theory.

You know who else didn't have college degrees. Those people who won the lottery this last week. That proves it. Don't waste your time and money on college.
If you have extra water in the Great Lakes, we need to pump that out west to the Colorado River. (Lake Mead has an ominous looking bathtub ring). Feasibility study, anyone?
No the "sovereignty" of the states doesn't translate into the right to leave the Union. If the state I live in tried to secede from the United States, it would happen over my dead body. The Union soldiers of the Civil War died a long time ago, but I don't think the debt owed to them has ended. Let us remain resolved, even in the 21st century, that these dead shall not have died in vain.
And another thing. Real leftists voted for Jill Stein. Obama's to the right of Eisenhower and Nixon.
Obama voters, I blame you that Jill Stein didn't win. Romney, (and Johnson) voters are innocent by virtue of their ignorance. But you who voted for Obama should have known better.
The argument between the dvorak and qwerty advocates sounds like an argument over gay marriage. Look no one wants to force you to use dvorak, they just want you to have the option, ok?
... people who lack intelligence, properly installed plumbing being essential to prevention of contagious disease. I'm a licensed P.E., BSME and also a certified journeyman plumber. That plumbing certification was not as easy to obtain as you think.
"I don't really have any reason to believe religion is the cause of all of its crimes, and instead I have plenty of reason to believe it's just an excuse and without that excuse we'd just come up with a different excuse like economics."
You're almost onto the truth in that statement. Except that economics isn't just another excuse to cover up the real reasons. It actually IS the underlying reason. We choose sides and our identities based on religion, nationality, skin color, tribe. But at the heart of all the violence is some underlying economic cause. We only fight over the right to have access to some material good, or to defend against others whom we fear will take what we have. But if the world ever achieves widespread prosperity somehow, it would also be a much more tolerant world in which warfare and oppression doesn't occur. Variation in identity by religious belief, or any other attribute, would be irrelevant, except when choosing sides for softball.
2 self-inflicted wounds for Ubuntu; Unity and now a fatal crass commercial affiliation that just won't appeal to Linux desktop users who have other choices. Ubuntu's suicide leaves room for a new top dog among easy to use Linux distributions. Linux Mint, perhaps? Xubuntu?
I'd mod that insightful. I can't help but think someday when I get into a "Johnny Cab" in Las Vegas, or New York city. I'm going to have a much higher probability of getting to my destination alive, provided the cab isn't shot at by an out of work cab driver.
I was 6. My grandmother was watching with me. She told me that when she was my age, they hadn't yet flown the first aircraft. I think she was born in 1892. I extrapolated from this that by the time I grew up, there would be colonies on the moon, and I'd be living the life of George Jetson. I'm disappointed. But if it hadn't been for the Apollo program, I might not have become an engineer.

Be on the lookout for those who think the "War on Christmas" is literally a "War".
South Carolina, Nuclear Plant.
This should have a what-could-possibly-go-wrong tag.

Maybe some lawyer among us can tell me. Are the people signing these petitions committing an act of treason? What is the punishment for treason?
That's mighty brave talk there, Anonymous Coward.

Moreover. I strongly suspect that the vast majority of these modern day secessionists are motivated by racist sentiments toward the President.

Universal?. Hmm. Most all of my childhood memories are owned by Disney and Time-Warner.

At what level of compensation. I suggest we bargain collectively.

I'll update to Firefox 15 when I see it in /usr/ports/www/firefox
