Assuming that patent was right, Isn't MS responsable too?
They sell Frontpage, which I assume was used to create most of the "infringing" sites. At least, they should have included a warning that the sites created with it may be in violation of a patent.
Also, If one of my big production servers needs to be shutdown for maintenance, I can just plug my notebook into the network, copy the files and continue working....
For tech support people this is great, just being able to move around a Solaris box.
1) Write a Trojan that will email me all the user bank account information.
2) Add an carefully crafted EULA, (using tons of legalese so nobody will read it) stating that by clicking you grant me the right to transfer money to my account.
3) Distribute it bundled with some stupid file share utility like Kazaa or AudioGalaxy.
4) PROFIT!!!!
I can also say that since my company is based in some 5th world country, its laws apply.
Will an EULA like that be legal?
Can you sue me if I transfer all your savings to my account?
Didn't the entire microcomputer industry start with a bunch of jocks sitting in a garage, soldering chips onto PCBs?
And don't forget that the success of the microcomputers (and of M$s DOS) began when other companies reverse engineered the IBM PC and began selling lower cost clones.
What happens with soccer players, they have rights for their images. I cant use a picture of Ronaldo or Zidane to promote a product without their consent. I can't even make a T-Shirt with their images or their names.
I don't think that this has been challenged in court, but I don't want to try.
The source code is available for all the parties. The IT people from all the parties have access to it before the election and have always a representative in each voting place to make sure everything goes ok.
As a question about the mandatory voting....do you have to pick a candidate for a particular position? Or can you abstain?
You can cast a blank vote, if you dont like any of the candidates.
Keep in mind that a casting a blank vote is not the same as not voting. If you don't vote, you are saying "I don't care". In the case of a blank vote, you are saying "I care, but I don't like any of the choices"
I assisted an official Sun Solaris training back in 1997 and we were told that the rservices/trust relationships (rlogin, rsh, rcp,e tc), which made number 6 in the list were not secure services and should be used at our oun risk. The same for NIS+.
So it doesn't make sense to include something that the Unix comunity is well aware and should not be using.
before his startup company is bought by M$?
This is all vaporware to increase the stock price.
Microsoft will be subject to careful scrutiny for abusive activity.
It's a joke, isn't it?

I'm an independent Solaris consultant. In a month I get to visit several different customers. It would be great for me to have a portable Sparc box.

Stupidity is to post in Slashdot if you have not read the article.
If you had, you will see that this certification was issued to ISOLATED SYSTEMS. Big Deal.
when the system is turned off....
Its time for a Free Hardware Foundation....

Can I just say "You should have read the EULA"?
But they are wasting my bandwidth, which Im paying for....
For respect to the other passengers, they should not be allowed to do it.
M$ selling closed software for Linux will stop the FUD about GPL (GPL software can be charged for, etc).

So, if Microsof sells software to China, India and Brasil, they are bound to obey chinese, indian and brasilians law?
Thats great, the world doesn't need to wait for the DOJ to break up M$ monopoly, just find another country where M$ does business to do it.

I really fear that we, in the eyes of the international community, will loose all moral credibility.
Already have, and long time ago...

Also FTP runs under Windows, doesnt it?
Why is Apache listed if it is a separate product. Not all Unixes came with Apache bundled and there is Apache also for Windows.
This is the help page for Opera gestures.

They are great. Also Opera is a much better browser than the others. And runs in Linux and Windows.
But it was Opera that popularized them.
They are great, I just hope that some ass hasnt patented them....
