That is why Sun is targeting the desktop market (the high end desktops, for engineering, graphical, etc. Of course Sun isnt going to compete with Walmart).
If the films are distributed under a GPL style license, everbody has the right to edit them and re-distribute. But I dont think they are.
What this people is doing has nothing to to with copyright, but with censorship. Have any of you lived in a country where there is censorship? Like Cuba or former Soviets Republics?
Imagine that you were in Moscow and were assisting Rambo III edited to suit the Soviet ideals, would you like it?
When someone censors parts of an artistic work, its changing the meaning of what the artist tried to express.
SURPLUS VALUE: Marxian economic concept that rofessed to explain the instability of the capitalist system. Adhering to David Ricardo's labour theory of value, Karl Marx held that human labour was the source of economic value. The capitalist pays his workers less than the value their labour has added to the goods, usually only enough to maintain the worker at a subsistence level. Of the total worth of the worker's labour, however, this compensation, in Marxian theory, accounts for only a mere portion, equivalent to the worker's means of subsistence. The remainder is "surplus labour," and the value it produces is "surplus value." To make a profit, Marx argued, the capitalist appropriates this surplus value, thereby exploiting the labourer.

So the problem is that they people are not paid according to the the income that their work generates for their employee.
In the case of somebody who invents something that lets his company make lots of money, his salary should reflect this. The employer wants exclusive rigths on their employees inventions, Ok, pay them according to the profit that those inventions bring to the company.
Maybe Yoda wont join the Emperor, but will became a sort of bening dictator for the Jedi order, maybe he gets a little out of the way and ends up being an obstacle for the Jedi Order.
So Obi-Wan and Anakin join forces against two different enemies, that happen to help each other.
That way, when Yoda reflects on the damage he had done, he goes to live in that swamp and decides to train Luke.
When I see Mozart's Moonlight Sonate, I know that this is an idiot who is sharing it. But when I see Tchaikowsky's 5th symphony and after several hours of download I find out that in fact it's Beethoven's I'm willing to pay a reasonable price for a good quality download.
One of the things that I have noticed in Audiogalaxy is that very oftgen the title does not match what I download and this is one of the reasons that I'll consider reasonable to pay.
I work as a consultant and many times my customers dont let me connect my notebook to their network. So if I need to transfer files, I had to use a floppy.
I seriously doubt that this was organized by anyone high level at MS.. probably just a salesman who thought it would be a good idea to get everyone to vote in the poll.
If it were done by high level people or even technical ones, there would be no evidence in the logs. Since W2k and XP have support to raw sockets BSD style, is easy to write some program that fakes an entire datagram, with random IP. That way there is impossible to log it.
... because everyone knows online polls aren't statistically valid by any stretch of the imagination
Except for argentinians, who believed that Maradonna was better than Pelé, based in an online poll. (They believed that their peso was the same as the dollar though...)
I don't think it's true. The confession (and probably the interrogatory) are like the ones in "The Name of the Rose", when Remmigio breaks pressure and confess everything that the inquisitors want him to confess and more : "I will confess to have killed our Lord Jesus if you want me to".
2 points in the article strike me:
Terrorist organizations like Al Queda (or however you spell it) are based in independent cells. No one knows about what other people is doing and nobody about what they are doing or what they did. If someone tries to impress his friends by telling about his activities, he would be silenced. Given that, this guy had no means to know about the plot.
Also he said that he was going to participate in an attack in London. But the attackers did not know what they were going to do until minutes before going into the plane (according to the last Bin Laden's video). So how did he know what he was going to do?
He is inventing the whole story out of hate, anger, fear, whatever passes for the head of someone who is being interrogated under pressure. (I dont mean to offend the folks from India, brutality with criminals is common in many places, even here, in Brazil).
The big issue in security is the cost of it. Cost in money, time and mostly in funcionality. A secure environment has to sacrify a lots of functions.
If you want a secure environment, blocking the users to modify the registry is a good measure. That way they will have access to the stuff they need and nothing else. You should also disconnect all CD and diskettes drives, serial ports (where a Zip drive can be inserted), ban every access to Internet and most of all, FORBID the use of notebooks.
This measures might seem cruel, hitlerian, but they are neeeded to hava a secure environment. If users are allowed to install everything they want, they will install ICQ, Napster, etc. They will waste your Internet bandwidth, your resources, spend their time doing other things or working for themselves. If they install software, you might end into trouble because of licences, system crashes, etc.
I worked in such a secure environment for 2 years. When I had to stay late at night taking care of a backup, the only amusement I had in my PC was the game of solitaire. Is not pleasent, but you focus in your work and do not waste time nor resources.

When you feel like crap, it's more satisfying to "go to war" than to intellegently address a serious issue.
This is called Bushism.
Someby may have said it already, but as soon as the album is released, PIN numbers will be spreading all over the Internet.
The same article was posted yesterday in this very same place, Slashdot under the Title "Ballmer: MS will outsmar Linux" or something like that.
Please, post something thats new.

So employers should pay a salary/bonus that reflects the real gain that the employees work produced.
Do they want exclusive rights on my work? Ok, as long as my salary/bonus reflects the millions of dollars that I made them earn.

Maybe Anakin was not completly taken by the Dark Side, some good remained on him. That would explain the end of ROTJ.
And when Joda and the Emperor conquer the Universe, the Emperor betrays Joda, who goes to live in that swamp and takes revenge by training Luke...
As I understand, there are a total of 9 episodes. So if the Empire is destroyed in episode 6 (ROTJ), whats left for the remaining of the saga?
This is a Microsoft sponsored plot, to divide the Linux world.
Thats my point, troll....

Only the time I lost downloading bad labeled mp3, is more than a reason to pay 25 cents for download.
Not to speak about slow connections, traffic, queues, etc.
How many people are involved in building such ballons? In flying them? Maintenance? Landing?
Come on, it's impossible to keep such a big thing hidden for 20 years.
I work as a consultant and many times my customers dont let me connect my notebook to their network. So if I need to transfer files, I had to use a floppy.
What about IBM's XT (you know, that old PC-XT).
