    The problem has absolutely nothing to do with money.

    It's a culture of stupidity. That's the problem. Teachers in Afghanistan somehow manage to get by on 1/100th the resources. Don't be stupid enough to believe that just spending a million bucks to fill a school full of brand new technology is suddenly going to change everything around, and now we'll be minting Rhodes scholars year after year. It doesn't work like that.

    School IT is close to the bottom of the barrel, right next to lawyers' and doctors' IT. School, though, has the added encumbrance of school board bureacracy and a teachers union in the mix.

    I agree, and it's not even confined to the primary schools. Universities are just as brain dead retarded these days. Michigan "Technological" University is currently right in the middle of transitioning their entire IT dept and groupware system over to Google. A school that teaches computer programming and other IT stuff, and has its own IT dept, can't even manage its own IT systems, and has to rely on an outside company to do it. How pathetic. The best part is, now the students are left in the fucking cold with no way to get hands on experience with problem solving. Real smart. Oh, and this is a University with a $50 million budget, flat screen TVs on every wall, etc. All money, NO fucking brains.

    slashdot says I shouldn't use too many caps because it's like YELLING. Well maybe I WANT to YELL so the people who just arent UNDERSTANDING can realize why Zimmerman is in the wrong here, and will be prosecuted and found guilty. Or the government will be overthrown, and the guy tried and convicted outside of the court system. It's down to that, basically.

    The fact that he has ANY injury means that his story adds up.

    Yeah--it adds to him chasing down and confronting this boy (WHO WAS INNOCENT OF ANY WRONGDOING), possibly being attacked by the boy (in SELF DEFENSE), maybe even with the boy getting the upper hand....and then shooting this kid he provoked a fight with.

    You don't see the wrong in that?

    Yes I do! So do all my friends...except for one or two. So?

    One thing that non-clueless people who've actually been paying attention have noticed is that there's a lot of people on FB who DO NOT choose to use their real name. Not all, or even most of them are paranoid Ted Kaczynski types hiding out in log cabins. I've noticed a lot of young black men especially tend to change their FB name to something creative or different.

    It's just another form of self expression. Why the fuck would you prevent your users from expressing themselves?

    Ooh, ooh! I know this one. Because Google would have a slightly diminished capacity to track every single of its users' every move, know every single thing there is to know about that person, and sell that information at great profit for its own benefit!

    So to avoid a 2% negative hit, they turn away 20% of their potential users. Real brilliant strategy you got there Google.

    How do you know when a company is evil? One big sign is when it starts ignoring its customers and pressing ahead with what it wants, regardless of what its customers desire. Doesn't that description fit Google pretty aptly?

    I mean, just read the description in the summary. I just love how they word things. You can just tell that these propellerheads are all totally convinced that Google+ is the best fucking thing ever. In their minds, G+ makes whoever invented sliced bread or the wheel look like a fucking chump next to their glorious creation. Listen to how goddamned concerned they are about how the "non-believers" and "anti-social-networking types" might be "missing out" on the "joys" of their platform! Oh my. Why the hell won't they just use our service, damnit? Why, if only we could grab hold of these stupid ignorant pricks and bolt them down in chairs, and make the stubborn fuckers see just how amazing our shit is! They would emerge into the world amazed, squinting at the sudden brightness and warmth of the sun, minds still reeling in incredulity from the wonders just experienced!

    I'm telling you--this company is fucking evil. Yes, stupidity is evil, when it's attached to as much power as Google possesses!

    Where do you kids come up with this stuff? Government isn't telling smokers how to run their lives, governments are telling smokers they can't pollute the indoor air that others have to breathe. I just wish they'd extend the "no smoking in the workplace" laws to popcorn, I don't mind cigarette smoke but burning popcorn gags me. I especially wish they'd outlaw fingernail polish remover in the workplace, that shit's more carcinogenic than cigarette smoke, and highly flammable as well.

    Your study put the cart before the horse. Marijuana was outlawed in the 1930s, the monkey "study" was done because pot was starting to be popular enough that folks began to realize the government had been lying to them for decades. Pot wasn't outlawed because of that "study", the "study" was done long after pot was illegal to rationalize the continued illegality.

    ....Which contradicts nothing I said or believe....so I'm not quite sure what your point is.

    A school has every right (if it was their equipment and network...its clear from reading comments that not everyone is on the same page on that question) to have an AUP and enforce it....

    No, I don't think a school as an entity has any "right" to a goddamn thing. The important rights here are the rights of the kids and the parents. The teachers and principals have no "right" to expel a student from school because of such a trivial thing which they had NO BUSINESS even knowing about in the first place. The inherent evil of their spying, police state, tyrannical attitude is not reduced by the existence of any (immoral) AUP, nor by any violations thereof.

    I agree that it is applying a temporary fix for a problem introduced by inflation. However, if we are going to keep the Keynesian system going it should at least be patched appropriately.

    We shouldn't--and can't--keep the fundamentally flawed Keynesian system going.

    I'm in two minds about what I think about inflation. On the one hand, it is a form of taxation or perhaps theft, depending on who the recipient is (which is somewhat difficult to find out).

    No, there is no "depending." It's theft, plain and simple.

    On the other hand, it does induce people to spend money so that people remain employed.

    People aren't driven to spend money because of inflation. They are driven to spend money because someone else has something they need. Money is only the value exchange mechanism.

    If people weren't taxed through inflation they would have to raise taxes elsewhere to get the same tax revenue.

    Wow, this is some SCARY thinking buddy.

    The government is NOT entitled to my money, especially considering 90% of what they steal from MY pocket is wasted by them.

    It's not so far fetched.

    One thing you have to understand is Afghans don't live in houses like you or I. They live in big mud walled compounds, with a central courtyard containing smaller structures. They also aren't packed quite as tightly as your typical American city. This is out in the country, in a desert area. There might be hundreds of yards between you and a neighbor.

    Given the facts, it's entirely plausible that he acted alone in killing all those people, and that nobody heard it or understood what was going on.

    Ironic you used that example, since it's an example of why free speech restrictions are inherently flawed.

    If a well meaning guy runs into a crowded theater and yells "FIRE", because there is an actual fire with smoke and flames and all......what's the practical difference between the outcome of this situation, and a similar one where a prankster does it for fun? Odds are people would get hurt in both situations, regardless of the person's intent, because yelling "FIRE" in a crowded room is a good way to panic people, especially if if there is an actual danger.

    I wonder......was there a huge outbreak of "FIRE" pranksters in years past, which was miraculously solved by the introduction of these anti-freedom and anti-free speech laws?

    The answer of course is no, because laws do not, cannot, and never will work to solve social problems.

    Our society is gone fucking nuts--I mean, out of goddamn control when it comes to ridiculously over-harsh punishments for innocent things which merit a slap on the wrist if anything at all. It's totalitarianism, tyranny which has gone unchecked for far too long.
