There's an actual legal definition of monopoly, and a court of law determines whether a company is or is not a monopoly. This definition probably draws on numerous laws and precedents I have no hope of wading through, but perhaps googling for 'monopoly legal definition' will help.

Cable news "personalities" calling themselves journalists is, more often than not, like someone watching a meteor shower calling themself an astronomer. TV is like a machine that sucks any objectivity and factual evidence out of news and replaces it with inflammatory propaganda, fear mongering, and flashy graphics. Not that some blogs don't have the same problems, but if cable news is the standard to beat there are definitely bloggers that qualify as journalists.
Since so many people/talking heads use the undeniable fact that most blogs are crap against this kind of argument, I thought I'd make the obvious corollary to Sturgeon's Law: 90% of blogs are crap because 90% of everything is crap. That includes you, network and cable news media.
IIRC shigawire is even better, because it can cut your enemies up good. Restraint, murder, and data storage. If you could make a sexbot out of it, it would be the best sci-fi invention ever.

Companies made money on Microsoft's incompetence. Microsoft fixes their incompetence, makes their product better, but it puts companies out of business.
Well, to be fair, giving away an anti spyware tool isn't 'fixing their incompetence'. They just bought a company and gave a reskinned product away for free, using their profit from OS sales to subsidize the cost of doing so. That being said, I don't think Microsoft is trying to put anti spyware companies out of business (what would they gain?), it's just a consequence of them trying to boost OS sales by bundling software to address one of the consumers' biggest fears. Of course, it is probably (and, I think, should be) illegal.
Also, aside from ActiveX controls, I'm not sure what their incomptence is with regard to spyware. Most spyware I've helped people uninstall came along with downloads the user initiated themselves.
The attempt to force your opponent into taking an extreme position by arguing as if there are only two possible positions, e.g. if you believe in lowering emmissions to improve environmental conditions at a certain known economic cost, you must also believe in incurring any arbitrary economic cost, no matter how large, for the same purpose.

I'm also using a PVR I built a month or two ago, but the I could never get TV-Out working properly, which seemed to be an issue with the drivers. Is your TV-Out working? I'm wondering if ATI has fixed this problem since I built mine.
That being said, I love my mythtv. I'm glad I finally built one, both for the way it changed my tv watching and for the stuff I learned in the process.

Punishment that is disproportionate to the crime committed NEVER serves the interest of everyone in the long run. It can only serve the interest of a select few.
Or, he could be providing a cheap oil supply to the companies his family has a well documented relationship with (including giving him the financial backing for his previous business ventures) so they can sell it at the current market price for hefty profits. Nothing to do with lowering what we pay, everything to do with who.
Well, I've never heard a large corporation develop a large scale automated system to read, index, and categorize your, and everyone else's, email. That doesn't mean they haven't, it just means I have no concrete evidence I should worry about it.
The government has shown its desire and willingness to do this, so we have concrete evidence we should be worried about it.
So, you don't read the story, use language like "little crap whiny stories" to describe the comments that prompted the story, place the blame on the users, and then you're surprised when a couple mods think you're being spiteful? You think it's simply because you're dissenting?
Take your own advice and fix the problem on your end next time.
