But, wouldn't the inherent weakness be that central computer which routes everything? I mean even with the expectation that it would be 'high bandwidth ready', wouldn't a d-dos attack be a prime candidate to take it down?
I wonder how they will deal with the "newbie user installation"? Are they going to make it RPM/Deb based? What about dependencies?
I can only wonder what happens when there is a Xwindows problem.....
I bought office 2000 a while back as a student (student edition), it has nothing different in it than the regular office 2000 except that I have to call in to register all the time (no not office XP, but office 2000 has this feature).
Only recently when I've called up (so I can install on some new hardware I've bought), can I have the *option* of giving my personal information (like my address/phone). But they already have that info on me! Grrrr...
Well that leads me to say, I hope in a couple of years when I go to use reinstall this software (I know I'll have to), because I refuse to buy the latest M$ softwhore..... will they tell me, that I'm no longer a student & must upgrade????
I have a standard alumni email address for life from my undergrad institution, now I am getting another lifetime email from my graduate school.
Great yet another educational email that when you are in the working world you have to explain to people that you are not still in school, but rather it is your alumni email. (you have to explain this quite a few times to some people).
Anyhow, what irks me is that in Canada, only 1 university (that I know of), has a.edu address... which I'd rather have.... instead they have a.ca address.....
Well, if they did GPL it, how quick do you think M$ could copy all of apple's good ideas?
Considering two things:
1) that M$ has copied most every good idea that apple has had (even as of late, the Firewire preference over USB2.0) and 2) under a BSD like licence they could copy everything & not release code themselves (can you say typical MS philosophy about closed source).
Also, I appreciate that they are porting many apps to OSX (and supporting it!!).... to save the open souce community some time to deal with "bigger/better" porting projects.
I remember when I could order online and get free shipping, so I ordered from one site.... then I'd get a freebie from another site, so then I'd order from there.... then the cycle would go on.
But the thing is, not a single one of these stores offered anything compelling for me to actually go and order from them again. After all, isn't online shopping a "commodity service"? (or at least it has evolved into that)
yea, could you imagine the dialog box.... "this virus requires OS9.x or earlier. press okay to reboot your machine in classic mode to run this virus, othewise press cancel".
Well I hear that excite @ home has some financial troubles. Maybe MSN will buy them. And then maybe they'll kick me off their network for using an "incompatible" OS such as linux.
They seem to want to alienate their AOL "IE slaves", because the page doesn't load all the time (though it does load sometimes) in IE 5.5 and it argues that IE 6.0 (beta) is not a real browser.
no mandrake 7.2 support... hmm... guess they'll never support mandrake 8 (yea I know it has most of this stuff, but I mean updater, etc.) or greater anytime soon.
Checking out their website, it says that IBM microdrives fit into the slot.... with 340mb, 512mb and 1GB sizes. What the heck would anyone do with 1GB of storage on your palm?
Downloading from a wireless phone or palm wireless connection to fill a 1GB drive could take a veeeeery long time.:-)
Funny is the fact that redhat ships with the "latest software" which includes netscape 4.76 not 6.01.... tells you something about the state of netscape browsers. I think it should ship with opera personally.
Does anyone know which version of the 2.4 kernel they are including?
Also, if anyone has played with it, does the new RPM version cause any incompatibilities with "older" RPMs? I upgraded RPM on RH7.0 and had some problems like that... anyone find the same thing?
Most game console companies sell their console at discounts, in order to have future game revenue. Now with the advent of hacks that are well publicized over the net, you can have people buy mass amounts of consoles & then use them for whatever they want.... so warning to console companies, don't sell your product below 'fair value'.
Speaking of which, would MS selling the Xbox below market value be "predatory pricing" due to their huge cash reserves?
If you are outside the US, companies like Microsft and Intuit may support your currency, stock exchange and the infinitesimal nuances of your system.... but how can this company possibly compete? or offer anything of value to nonUS customers?
For example Quicken Canadian edition and MS Money Canadian edition are two great products... and should run just fine on VMWare.
So, what about music that I make on my computer or record on my tape recorder & put on napster(remember the apple iTunes ads).... do "mere mortals" get to decide upon their own home brand of music as being acceptable or does the RIAA want to control what music we create on our home computers????
So, if they did violate the GPL who can get them to conform?
Would the GNU organization be able to sue for breach of licence? Or could someone else/organization do that?
But, wouldn't the inherent weakness be that central computer which routes everything? I mean even with the expectation that it would be 'high bandwidth ready', wouldn't a d-dos attack be a prime candidate to take it down?
Looks pretty.
I just wonder, how much easier their task of porting was made because of the BSD background of OSX?
Also, does anyone know the best tool to develop for cross platform TroolTech QT gui on osx or on windows?
I just would like to know, how they can use multiple CPUs if the OS (os9) doesn't support them?

will this compile on FreeBSD or OSX? Judging from the docs, no... but is there a mosix for other oses?

How is the newbie firewall setup compared to the redhat 7.1 tool to setup simple firewalls?

Can u get this rebate in Canada? If so, how exactly do you go about getting the rebate?
