Are you sure this 'space ball' idea isn't the work of the european space agency... because those things look like giant soccer balls. Could you imagine the soccer riots that british and german soccer fan astronauts could get into when they finally land on mars!:)
The CRTC has *not* mandated regluation of pricing in broadband. But, if it turns out that cable internet is dead (fat chance!)... and dsl is the only high speed net service... then they are pretty much mandated to regulate the industry of a monopoply.
Free Pascal from www.freepascal.org is available under GPL, here is the description: "The language syntax is semanticly compatible with TP 7.0, some extensions used by Delphi (classes, rtti, exceptions, ansistrings) are also supported. Furthermore Free Pascal supports function overloading and other such features."
Maybe aol could start shipping java on all those free cds that they give out.... think of aol as our msaveour:)
But in all seriousness, I don't think the 'average user' would download java because of some MS 'warning message' on how (possibly) harmful java is to your computer (probably omitting the word possibly). Do you really think MS would let people easily install java????!
Ever heard the phrase 'where there is a will there is a way' and 'necessity is the mother of invention'? Well, I don't think hacking will ever go away.... there are just TOO many people out there with nothing better to do and the desire to do something like hack a computer (or whatever they'll call them in the future).
"They even let you use Linux w/o a problem and I believe that they have tech support for it too"
- Actually, I've tried calling tech support, and boy did they ever *hassle* me when I said I used linux, also they hassled me when win2000 first came out and it wasn't officially 'supported' by them. I had to argue then just for them to tell me my static IP, dns #'s etc.
With all those multiple audio tracks a dvd can have, one question begs to be answered. Do they have a wookie soundtrak? Better yet, one translated in ewok?:)
Imagine this, in a billion years or so, on some distant planet, someone discovers some 'fossilized' human bits that were sent on the rocket..... wondering if that was the cause of life on their planet.
Isn't this what happened when those martians sent their bacteria on that rock to earth?
Well, I'd wait to see the version with 512k of L2 cache.... as it seems the 'old technology' of the Pentium 3 was the only one able to compete (clock for clock) with AMD's Athlon cores.
But, if they are able to increase the cache and keep the speed at cpu speed.... then I think the Pentium 3 might make strong sales.
I want a dual 1.13Ghz P3 running cool on a.13 micron press! drrrrrroooollll....:s
I was watching TV (Cnet or ZDnet? can't remember), but on the show the interviewed flat panel makers & they said that up to 2 dead pixels/monitor was acceptable.
But the question remains, if it is acceptable for desktop flat panels, why is it not acceptable for laptop ones?
(I am writing this from a 100% pixel-perfect laptop right now):)
So when are they going to compare all major Oses? Anyone know of a Mac vs. Windows vs. Linux vs. FreeBSD vs. BeOS comparison.
But, one question comes to mind, how can you really compare two OSes on different hardware? Well I guess the proliferation of compatible USB/Firewire/other external devices makes one part at least comprable.
anyone know if java 1.3.1 is autorecognized.....? the docs say JRE 1.3.0_1 is autorecognized and used as is (windows build) if it is already installed.
I remember an older version of nero would warn you if you were copying a copyrighted CD..... it wouldn't do much more than warn you (ie, it didn't stop the copy).... as only I think is fair, since it is ultimately up to the end user to respect copyright.... since there is always a kid out there writing a hack to something to allow copying.... you cannot stop it.... just learn to live with it.
(sort of like the argument of banning or regulating gambling/alcohol/etc.)
You can always download from www.linuxiso.org (along with most other popular distros), but this server usually takes a day or so to get the latest versions.
Now only if Ximian would hurry up their porting efforts & make that nice easy to install tool available for Solaris Intel..... for some reason they only like Solaris Sparc.... then I could get frequent updates, which sun doesn't provide.

If only they soldered on a Geforce2Go... then you'd see some *real* lan party action in an itty bitty nice case.
And whatever happened to that blue colour iMac is/was famous for? I was hoping for a cooler looking casing.
How will this affect slashdot's icons? Can you imagine the merging of the BE and Palm Icons into one? :)
How about they call the medical instrument, "the medical device formerly known as light sabre"
So, the article fails to tell you how much of a 'risk' having a slashdot account is. :-)
Is the rambus monopoly/evil empire era really over? All without Anti-Trust laws? How can it be that capitalism actually works?! :-)

It's been a while since I've used GCC, does anyone know if it has inline assembly support for SSE and SSE2 on the intel side?

you can set your games/opengl/directx/etc. to "sync every frame" so things won't seem that blurry.

All of this hassle in a windows game??! But isn't windoze easy to use??
