why do you need internet (the public one, with no QoS) to have remote access from one point (data collecting / stat computer) to the power plant ?
Yes, the data have to be collected from somewhere, but why not make a private WAN (or a VPN if best-effort QoS is OK for you) for this ? It's not about playing WoW with your neighbour, it's about remote controlling a nuclear core, so maybe it would make sense.
Reality check: Most general users do not leave their browsers open for a couple days. Let alone a couple days max. In fact, I wager that most turn their computers off at the end of the day. Sure, and for them WinMe should quite adequate ; a quick reboot from time to time isn't such a big problem.
In fact IIRC the definition didn't refer to a specific meridian and neither equator because any country has its OWN meridian, addind to the universality of the definition (which has a main motive then).
Hey, you ! You shouldn't try to impress us with your low ID or whatever, you know. I know there are zero or negative IDs somewhere watching you with disdain. meh.
Don't let this disturb you, the jargon is quite simple and you'll get accustomed to it. Besides, there's always google and let me point you to a famous site (mostly folklore/trivia, but it might light a bulb sometimes in reading mailing lists : the jargon file by eric s raymond : glossary is there : http://catb.org/esr/jargon/html/go01.html )
Do you understand the difference between DNS/WHOIS and HTTP? Yes hence I spoke of a percentage (parked domains) and not of the totality of sites. I might have to be more explicit next time.
I don't know what registerfly ran on, but given that godaddy seems to be on windows, it might be that a sizeable % of those 850k domains will be counted as "windows" in 1,2,3... therefore confirming imminent apache death.
too bad I answered your comment whle being exhausted because : 1/ you were right and I was wrong (reading my answer again makes me think I cannot see what my point was after all.) 2/ I cannot mod your educated, insightful answer up (which wouldn't exist had I not answered... urgh)
because, dear ^$%@#, this isn't a chip brand ! This is the other name of the MPEG-4 AVC Codec, giving 2x more more/Gb than your regular DiVX for the same quality.
You have no idea how French and American visions of state differ. French people have since royal times kept the vision of a powerful and impersonated state, which is trusted and where people expect the state to be a moral person, reponsible and present along everyday life (think welfare state for example). Even since the French revolution has the State kept its (although recent is more geared towards a reduction of role state), even if the economy has always been quite liberal.
Government is as much out of place encouraging Free Software as it is encouraging any philosophy or idea : of course governments should promote ideas (even anarchic ones), that's why it has been chosen over some other one. Even having and enforcing free markets IS an agenda, because sometimes it naturally leads to monopolies which needs state intervention to keep market free.
Besides, what do you mean free software is not Libre ? Aren't you free to use/modify it? Aren't you free NOT to release the software you write under a Free license ?
except that GSM/3G communication are cyphered (though I dunno how crackable it is) ; however you could just be a jackass and spread noise around in the right frequency, so I assume it would effectively be prohibited.
The same argument could be applied for crack / guns / windowsMe / con mans. Not that marketing is comparable to those (really), but this argument is ridiculous.
Why ? To each program its own target. KDE has never been "for older hardware". However, perfectly nice & actively developed Desktop Environment exist for older hw (xfce by ex.). Same here, OpenSource is about making use of older codebase, so nothing prevents anybody to patch FF2.x !
If you recall, I think there was a Basic language on PS2 CD set. It was just so you can boot thos and pretend they were computers : in some parts of the world, computers are lower VAT than game consoles. But the prog language was worthless and impossible to program homebrws with it, of course
You mean over 25 which (I think I remember) was prehistoric life expectancy ? Not that what you suggest isn't a laudable goal nor that it wouldn't increase average life expectancy.
And when you read some comments on this story, you understand that it's reading from video memory, which is of very little use. Why would you want to read from video mem ? I don't remember what read speed AGP had, but it was certainly asymetric wrt writing.
Please note that the $100 laptops--not yet in production--will not be available for sale. The laptops will only be distributed to schools directly through large government initiatives.

Sure, but replacing 5 polling booth with 1 machine is not a good way to shorten queues ...

There, now I feel better.

yeah, frankly, 640 cores should be enough for everybody, no?
The best free c++ ide on windows (dev-c++ or dev-cpp) is made with delphy (yes) (uses mingw as compiler)
Er, ... am I the only one to find the categorization of this article (-1, Flamebait) ? It seems MS vs European Union is now a US vs UE debate ?
/. wouldn't either.
Without being too naive, if it's right then I would come to the conclusion that MS = US. WTF ?
I don't think so, and I thought a site like
roaming bookmarks are spelled deli.cio.us (and it's free, if there's ads I don't remember them so ...)
