    There is a native Linux port made by Loki. I actually have it, it comes with the expansion set too. Its not free software/open source though.

    much more reasonable solution for many pirates.

    Two Things:

    First, a modded Xbox isn't necesseraly for playing unauthorized copies of games, it could be used to run Linux for Xbox, XMame, Xbox Media Player, etc.
    Second, here's a reason why you shouldn't refer to unauthorized copying as 'piracy'.

    NASA are quite well known for making bad budget predictions.

    This project will probably run over-budget into the billions, take 3 times as long as excpected and get cancenlled before it is completed.

    Do you know if they make their source code for their modified version of OpenOffice.Org available?

    The relevent directory on their ftp is empty:

    The Interview does mention a openoffice-1.0-0.ximian.1.src.rpm.

    The 'F' stands for Featherweight. It was called that way because it was originally less ressource intensive than twm (tabbed window manager) on which it is based.

    The author might have forgot what his acronym stands for but some people remember the original announcement.

    Decompression of the Soreson 3 natively is good but what about doing the opposite.

    Could ffmpeg be used to make free software for Linux which can compress video in the Soreson 3 format? This would be great considering that the alternative would be to use expensive Apple software on a Mac.

    Actually, xine is split into 2 components: xine-gui and xine-lib. If you do not like the xine-gui, you could look for alternate guis but keep the xine-lib part (and therefore the native Sorenson 3 support).

    One alternate gui I know is Kxine, a kde/qt based gui for xine. I think it looks nice.

    I know that Mplayer comes with ffmpeg and uses it as its divx/mpeg1/2/4 deconding engine

    Could droping in its source tree the new version ffmpeg in lieu of the one that comes with it make Mplayer support native Sorenson 3 too? Or would some additionnal modifications be needed in the Mplayer source?

    It already exists, just google for XCD.

    And ISO does not 'waste' space for nothing, it's uses the remain space for error checking/correction.

    Run by someone who will gladly have his server foward any message you send.

    But what if the aliens are compressing all their communications? An already compressed signal wouldn't be re-compressible.

    Actually, it would suprise me if an advanced civilization would send all their signals uncompressed and waste radio bandwidth.

    No, most SMTP servers are not wide open. If your ran an SMTP and left it open, it wouldn't be long before it got blacklisted.

    And say a spammer wants to send 10 million emails in a day. At 10 emails/open relay he/she would need to find 1 million open relays which isn't the easiest thing to do.

    I said that for a long time Linux had trouble going over 4 cpus. Not that it still has. Besides, I think SGI did some custom patching to the kernel for their 64 way servers.
