  1. Price of HDTV on The Joys of HDTV · · Score: 1

The price of HDTVs is too high. Who would spend $3500 on a 25" tv??? My computer monitor with a voodoo card can do 1280x1024, which is higher than HDTV(1024x1024) and it costs a lot less.

  2. use of .us on The Great .us Giveaway · · Score: 1

many public school systems use the .us domain. My school does. the format is usually

  3. Re:People don't care? on CD Copy "Protection" in California · · Score: 2

You can still buy newer LPs and they aren't $29.44. Adeline Records sells some LPs and EPs, the average price there is $3.50 for EPs and $12 for LPs.

Also, cd now has vinyl copies of music for sale from some artists.

  4. Linux at school on Microsoft and the U.S. School System · · Score: 1

My school is getting a Linux box to act as a firewall for the network. It will be the first computer in the school district to have Linux on it. The rest of the servers run Win2k. But I'm going to try and talk the sysadmin into getting a Linux server for the website(I like Apache better than IIS).

  5. gnutella on @Home Cuts Newsgroups Due to DMCA Complaints · · Score: 1
it looks like stuff posted in the newsgroups that are being taken off can easily be found on gnutella.

Or if you don't like gnutella, then use a different nntp server, there are many websites that have lists of free nntp servers.

  6. Sony == Sega??? on IBM To Make CPU For Sony's PS3 · · Score: 1
It seems that Sony is starting to do what sega did, which is making a new system every year or two. Now we all know that Sega didn't do to well with that plan, but if Sony can keep the newest PS compatible with older PS games, they might do better than Sega.

And this comment comes from a person who doesn't own any Sega or Sony game consoles.

  11. Click of Death on Iomega Settles Zip Drive Suit (With Rebates) · · Score: 1

Is the click of death more common in external zip drives? I have an internal zip drive and it's been working fien for 3+ years.

My theory is that external drives get moved around more so the parts inside start loosening up and will fall out resulting in the click of death. But internal drives just sit in one spot and never move, so all the parts stay intact.

  13. Your game will continue after these messages... on In-Game Advertising Comes of Age · · Score: 1

The advertising in video games has changed, and will continue to change. Back in the old days of Atari 2600, there was a game called Kool-Aid Man. I happen to have the cart and on the cart, it says "(c) 1983 GENERAL FOODS CORP". So I guess this was the General Foods Corporation's way of advertising Kool-Aid to kids through video games. The next game that came to mind was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 for NES. Back then, I was just simply amazed that they were able to put the Pizza Hut logo in an 8 bit game.

But now fast foward to present day where video games are put on CD's and DVD's. These mediums are able to hold much more than a cart(even a N64 cart). So There is more space for advertising. What kind of advertising? The kind you see on TV. Yep, the regular 30 second commercials. I hope I never see the day that we are forced to watch 30 to 60 second ads for soft drinks, soap, cars, electronics, credit cards... in order to advance to the next level of a game.

I don't own a PS or PS2, but I do have a N64 and the only game I have that has any advertising is 1080 Snowboarding. It has the Tommy Hilfiger logo plastered everywhere in the game. I don't mind though. It's better than waiting a minute before each race.

  15. Re: Are Kids Turning Your Kids Into Killers? on Are Kids Turning Your Kids Into Killers? · · Score: 1

It seems that there are some kids who have trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality. The media is very quick to confirm this. However the media only looks at one side of the story.

The last time I saw a "news" story about a school shooting on one of the national tv networks, they had said that the kids who have trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality are the ones who bring guns to school.

I agree that what I heard in that "news" story could have been a posibilty, there is one that they didn't say. The kids who are picking on other kids probably watch tv and play video games too. Has it ever occurred to anyone that the bully might also have trouble telling the difference between fantasy and reality? Maybe the bully watches a tv show where someone harasses another person for fun. Then that bully thinks that if he does the same, then he will also have fun.

I think the real truth is that there is no one person, tv show, video game, or company to blame for all of the school shootings. It is a number of different things.

While still on the same subject, I have something else to say. If there is ever a law passed that prevents minors from playing certian video games, it wont work. Just like mp3 trading, kids playing violent video wont go away, ever...

    those are my 2 cents
