As companies are forced to squeeze more and more to make good profits they will trim whatever fat there is. Linu and Tron are both viable alternatives to WinCE or other proprietary embedded systems. And Tron is the biggest success in that field. The guy that invented it, if he had charged 1 cent per copy used he would be a billionaire a few times over by now. I doubt that any house lacks one device that may be powered by Tron.
However if I'm forced to pay for every critical ancillary peice of software in my OS of choice then computing becomes prohibitively expensive. I have 5 seperate machines in the house so paying for 5 copies of Opera for all those machines would get expensive. I'm also considering replacing both me and the wife's machines with Mac's vs PC's and delegate the largest machine to a glorified Xbox until Linux gaming comes around. I appreciate Apple's family license which would fit perfectly within my budget and comes with everything we need for day to day use of the internet. Firefox or Safari works just fine for what I need it for. Opera while a great browser, is hard to swallow when there's free competition. They would be better served supplying browsers for CE devices like cell phones and PDA's. Of course you also have to worry about those devices turning to Linux in the future also in which case you probably will see FireFox being used there also.
For the most part Indian game programmers could do little to program up a game that would appeal to american kids.. it's a huge culture thing. Sure they could probably do back end mechanics of the game but everything else would have to be put in by the american programmers.
Huge taxbreaks to corporations that allow them to offshore even more jobs while at the same time justifying losing american jobs through the Kyoto pact as a excuse to not join it..
People are getting charged higher insurance AUTO, HOUSE whatever just for having a low credit score. So forget that discount you may be getting when you turn 25 they can just turn around and say you have a low score and it makes you a risk.
The kicker is that they say they dont know what specific information on the reports causes their score to go up or down it's just a number they are presented with. Which they then say you are entiteled to a free credit report.. hey stuff may be there but what specific item makes me a bad driver?
Trading many movies is nearly imposssible in the USA.. However the MPAA is probably powerless to sue traders in other countries where a 2 hour movie takes a few minutes to download.
The max speed is around 75Gbps.. this is why companies such as towerstream who are using WiMax can offer Gigabit connections non LOS within 10 miles of a tower.. cheaper than the telco's.
I guess Google must not know that Linux has now outpaced desktop installs vs Mac's..
Besides it would make sense to do both the only real difference is the UI programming at least for OS X, the filesystems on both systems are very similar.
hit www.flower-mound.com also a DFW Metor city.. they plan to have FIOS installs finished in 6 months.. not to mention grapevine is in full swing with their installation. So whatever idiot still claims that it's just a pipe dream needs to lay off the pipe.
It looks like IBM chose the right direction to go with their line of processors. With things like the power 5 chip, and altivec processing units combined you get more bang for the buck vs a dual core x86 chipset running at a higher clock speed.
However I dont see a mass migration to the power platform due to the entrenchment of the desktop market. BUT if they can proove they have the more powerful upgrade path we may be seeing more powerPC type servers in the farms as businesses upgrade and look for that power for price. With PPC linux this will be possible and Microsoft will be sitting around wondering what the hell happened.
Clear Winner here is Linux. You could thrown RH 9 onto the net with no firewall or anything and there it would sit until someone hacked it.
Do the same with XP or W2k and within 20 minutes or less it would become infected and begin zombie operations.
Lets go to a patched server in both cases they're still vulnerable. However there is a clear difference in vulnerabilities with the majority of Linux ones being in the realm of local hacks where in Windows you're still dealing with remote hacks and buffer overflows.
Yes in many cases both problems can be blamed on 3rd party apps but even in kernel to kernel comparisons Windows still is high on the list of being vulnerable.
It seems lately Intel has been met face on with many failures. Lately I've been keeping my eyes on Ibm's power developments and AMD's work also in how they push CPU power without the Mhz factor. However while Intel produces a lot of chips you have to remember AMD is one of the largest chip makers in the world and their CPU business is only a small fraction of that. Maybe AMD will pick up where Intel gave up.
These new passports could be a terrorists wetdream. Now they will have the ability to easily scan a crowd for their targets and take them out with brutal efficency. Forget everything you've been taught to help you be safe and inconspicious while overseas your passport may be ratting you out.
I downloaded it and got me a USB key (Been meaning to do that for awhile) It boots faster than my Redhat or Linspire partitions though I dont have a USB 2.0 port (This AMD 64 machine is supposed to) either way it runs fine.. has Firefox.93 though instead of the PR but that can be easily fixed and it does not detect my mouse wheel which would also be nice. However it is quite usable and the only thing I'd want extra is a Sun port so I could use it on workstations at work.
If the computer industry does not get it's act together with high power usage they will begin to see a decline in these power systems sales. Running 450 watt systems can cost hundreds of dollars a year in extra costs in electricity. For this reason me and the wife are now looking into Mac solutions for standard work stuff and SFF pc's with 200 watt PS's to cut down on the electric bills. In fact it's just not the wattage pull you have to worry about. These systems are now putting off so much heat it puts strain on your home AC systems having to recool off the house as the heat spreads. I've seriously have considered a dryer hose hooked up to the PSU output fan and pipe it out the house.
The problem here is many of the peices they would use to track the printers are integral parts of the replacable toner cartridges and printer ink kits. Only printers that have perm drums and heads will be easily traceable.
It's G4 Emulation which is just fine and they say they're working on G5 emulation.
IMO if this is the real deal then were looking at Apple seeing that there is a true demand for OS X on the x86 and 64bit platforms. They may begin to see ways to make money selling the OS + Support for those companies. Hardware manufacturers already make MAC drivers for many products and it's not that hard to convert those drivers for use on a x86 version of OS X. Furthermore Nvidia and ATI both have Mac drivers and if there was sudden demand they would probably work their collective arses off getting drivers out ASAP.
Funny how it takes them 10 years to cry foul and say we want our money.. Given LCD displays recently became popular in the last 4 years but still they had been around much longer than that just extremely expensive.
With the recent announcements of big name talk show hosts including stern going to sirius I'm becoming a little irritated with XM's love fest with the automobile industry. I cant get a Sirius module for my stereo so it's all intergrated and would be forced to buy a stand alone unit to plug into the aux jack..
However this is good news for sirius.
What's advanced here?

SUSE 9.2 Released

I paid for 9.1 Professional, Gaim was broke and you couldnt get a new 64bit compile from suse of the fixed version to save your life. They just farmed me out to ask the community for a fixed version. With no true workstation install you have to get all the compilers and such installed. And even then the 64bit version was missing packages that the 32bit version was not. So you couldnt compile a 64bit version if you wanted.
I had high hopes of Novell buying SuSe only to see not much being done with it. Patches to broken applications if made available need to be recompiled in a timely manner and be available to the users. Telling a customer to find it on the web is the wrong answer.
My friends are now fighting a war and have emailed me several times to never believe what their superiors have said. Believe the News.
I feel sorry for your friends, it sucks to be stuk in the middle of a situation that everyone disagrees about. Course we could question why they are in the military if they disagree with the actions of the military, but I can understand tha at 18 most people don'tgenerally question the government much (or even care for that mater)...
yeah i forget were all 18 in the military.. perhaps 10 years ago and some of my older friends who are nearing their 50's..
Coincidentally I've yet to see a senior enlisted (IE not an officer) soldier be interviewed about Iraq.. In fact I know E7's there that have been ordered not to say anything negative. They got that breifing in huge groups that they'r eto put a happy face on the situation reguardless.
I believe they've already paid for upgrades that will never come with that software assurance thing MS rolled out a few years ago.
So lets drop the Linux to get cheaper windows track please.
They invented Unix, use it heavily on their systems and Linux would better intergrate. Were not talking about licenses for just Windows, you also have part of the company using Citrix to access windows when needed. They also have to pay hummingbird licenses to access their Unix machines which for servers and switches is probably 99% of the OS's that run on that equipment. Linux would save them money.
actually the maximum is around 75Gbps.. towerstream is offering up to multipule gigabit links for businesses in Chicago and a few other major cities using WiMax gear.

Bush must think were all stupid..

I've never been in a wreck.. so I find it unfair.

bah the idiot is probably not running any applications.. load up seti at home or prime95 and let it burn in for a few minutes..
Then touch your heatsink and tell me it's cool.
Think he forgot about coolnquiet tech.. that proc probably runs sub 500mhz when idle.. so passive cooling works.

Once again we see the trend..
Patent X
Quietly waits until it's popular
Profit!
