  1. Re:This is fucking retarded. on Nintendo, Sony Take Big Financial Hits · · Score: 1

There are several console games that were delayed to the ps3 because it was so hard to develop to. Grand Theft Auto 4 and Unreal 3 are the first to come to mind,

They were delayed because they were sloppy ports from the 360. If you target the 360 and then try to shoehorn the code into the PS3, the results aren't great. Compare it to PS3 exclusives like InFamous, Metal Gear Solid, Killzone 2 etc and you'll see much better results.

and there's also the fact that Valve refuse to develop for the Ps3 because of the hardware difficulties - something they came out and said after the port of the Orange box to the Ps3 (done by outside contractors). This is why you're not seeing Left 4 Dead to the Ps3.

Valve (specifically, Gabe Newell) has said a lot of bad things about the PS3 to cover for the fact that they cheaped on the Orange Box port. Their reputation was damaged, so he tried to deflect the blame to the console. Newell has blasted the Wii as well. He doesn't have the manpower or expertise at Valve to handle these systems, so he chooses to disparage them. Valve doesn't need to make games for either system-they make plenty of money as it is-so this kind of talk is useless.

This is trend is being seen in all social levels. So, Family Values are a nice political campaign slogan, but we have rejected them as a society.

I don't think anyone anyone debates that a real, 2-parent household is the best environment for raising children. But a 2-parent household is the exception throughout history, especially for the lower classes. It is a form of wealth in its own way.

What America do you live in? In the one I live in, "family values" like marriage, having children, etc are cherished. There's even public service announcements like "it takes a man to be a dad." No one, besides maybe the most radical feminists would say that fathers are "undesired." And there really aren't many single-parent households at all if you count step-parents.

Personally, I'm fine with digital download replacing media. It is better for the environment and more efficient. I would expect the system to (a) let me sell my key to another person, and (b) let me re-download the data if I need to.

    (a) will never happen. With any of the console manufacturers, unless Gamestop decides to make a console, then maybe. (b) might if you're lucky, but think how many hours you will waste re-downloading games when your Xbox720 inevitably breaks.

Another thing that digital downloads will put a stop to is: taking a game over to a friend's house to play. Sure, you could give him your Xbox Live login (or PSN) but that's linked to your credit card. How much do you trust your friend? Also, you'd have to coordinate with your friend the day before, or wait hours for the game to download to his console. And that's if he has enough room on his hard drive. And let's not forget the move towards metered broadband...your friend might not be so keen to download your game if it costs him money.

I wouldn't touch an all-digital distribution system. Convenience is one thing, but there are just too many aspects of console gaming that we take for granted that would disappear. It's bad for consumers.

I understand what you're saying, but iTunes already has a plugin architecture for supporting 3rd party MP3 players. It's just that since Apple released the iPod, they aren't interested in supporting 3rd party players anymore...they only want you to use iTunes. They didn't care when iTunes was Mac only and the iPod had just come out, but now they don't want you using anything but the iPod with iTunes. Greed is the reason, not purity of experience. They could make it easy for 3rd parties again if they wanted to. Heck, they could at least refrain from breaking stuff on purpose.

But, I don't pay a penny for iTunes so it's tough for me to be that upset about it. I'd like a Pre myself, but I doubt I would use the music part of it anyway, there's just not enough space for it.

No we need way more Candle in the Wind! Which version? How about all of them! Genius idea! A Guitar Hero game featuring songs with absolutely no guitar playing at all, or the shittiest, most talentless jerk-offs out there able to pound out the same three note chord bar after bar! AWESOME!

The Elton John song is "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)", which has a pretty juicy guitar part, if I do say so myself. Guitar Hero is about pretending to be a rock star, not a musical virtuoso. The audience of people who can tolerate Robert Fripp solos is much smaller than those who can enjoy a simple AC/DC track. And out of those Robert Fripp fans, most of them are going to say "Get a real instrument instead of pretending to play a solo on a plastic toy." So, from a financial standpoint, does it make sense to target these people?

Don't know what exactly you have against technically proficient players, and I'm not sure when being able to play an instrument well became something to despise.

It became "something to despise" when technically proficient, soulless players sucked all the fun out of rock 'n' roll and turned it into something more pretentious ballet (which btw was invented so that aristocrats could look at girls in skimpy clothes, funny what we consider high art these days).

It's a good thing there's such diversity in music today. Those of us who appreciate talented musicians can listen to them, while those who enjoy the absolute shit put out by people who cannot even call themselves musicians any more (they're "artists") because they have less to do with the actual music than my bowel movements have an abundance to choose from, even if most of it sounds the same.

So you must love Kenny G more than Charlie Parker, right? Robert Fripp more than Chuck Berry? Some no-name fusion jazz drummer more than Keith Moon? After all, boring, masturbatory soloing is what people with sophisticated tastes like yourself just love. God forbid those artists be accountable to an audience! It's not like they're entertainers, that would be beneath them.

Anyway, back to Rock Band, a great deal of people like catchy songs, whether they're simple or complex. A small amount of people appreciate technically complicated music for its own sake. They usually work at coffee shops or Guitar Center and scowl at everyone, then wonder why everyone hates them. Which would audience would you target your music-based at?
