The most important parts of the downtown area are speech-restricted (Really! With guards and everything!)

Entire blocks, huh? Just to clarify for people that might not know what happened, the mormon church bought the 1 block street between its headquarters building and 'Temple Square' and made it into a little flower garden/pedestrian park. The ACLU was pissed that there were 'no smoking' signs there, and the mormon church responded that it was a guideline that probably wouldnt be enforced. There are security guards at Temple Square to prevent vandalism and stuff, but thats about it. Oh, and if you want coffee in downtown SLC, try one of Starbucks 13 SLC locations.

Over 95% of all government (local, city, county, state, plus senators and congressmen sent to DC) of Utah are Mormon.

A majority of Utahns are mormon- it makes sense that the majority of the government reps are mormon too, don't you think? Simple math...

At job interviews for private industry in Utah, you will be asked what (Mormon) ward you belong to

What kind of job where you applying for? I've had 2 software jobs in Utah and interviewed at several other companies, and I have never been asked anything close to what you describe. In fact, it wasnt until I interviewed with a large tech company in CA that I had to take a drug test. And its funny, my offices have always had designated smoking areas and coffee pots in the break room too...

You soon learn to judge immediately in your dealings whether the person you're talking to is Mormon or non-Mormon. If they're Mormon and you're non, you mentally give up and move on to the next task of the day

Wow- with an attitude like that, maybe you are part of the problem?

In most of Utah, you cannot buy real beer, but must by "special" beer with limited alcohol content

"Special" beer? You mean 3.2 beer? I grew up in Colorado where unless you have a liqueur license, you can only sell 3.2 (or less) alcoholic drinks from 5 am to 12 midnight. Liqueur stores can sell anything, but they have to be closed on Sunday. Its the same thing in Utah. And funny you should mention Rocky Anderson- the non-mormon mayor of SLC (who is very popular, btw). And guess what? His alcohol law changes were approved- either the mormon church doesnt have as much influence as you seem to think or they were not opposing it as much as you thought (it was a combination of both, actually).

Kilobug even went so far to say that the US should cut it's military budget so we can help more. If people hate us now even with all of the humanitarian aid that we give, giving more isn't going to help. Cutting our military budget would just mean that we would be unable to defend ourselves.

    while we're busy bombing Afghanistan

Don't you mean busy bombing terrorists that pose a serious threat to our national security? Accoring to the UN charter, what we are doing in Afghanistan is an act of self defense. Even Musharraf in Pakistan said that this isn't an attack on Afghanistan- its just an attack on the terrorists.

  15. Re:your kungfu...I mean propaganda is WEAK on US Starts Attacking Afghanistan · · Score: 1

Hiroshima, Nagazaki: how many dead civilian?
The question is, how many people would have died had the US not dropped those bombs. The decision to drop them was not made lightly, but they decided that it would save lives in the long run.

Vietnam war: same thing. People still dying today in Vietnam from your napalm and nuclear weapons.
There were no nuclear weapons used in Vietnam.

Drest bombing: how many dead civilian?* Iraq bombing and embargo: same thing. In the worst hours, 3 children where dying each second because of US embargo.
And what about Saddam stealing the UN humanitarian supplies before they reach the children?

How many people killed and tortured by Pinochet and others dictators armed by the CIA? (same thing for Ben Laden, Talibans, ...)
It is impossible to predict what Pinochet was going to do in the future- you are faulting the US for not reading somebody's mind and predicting the future?

How many innocent people sentenced to death by error?
First of all, the number of innocent people that might be sentanced to death is a lot higher than the number that would acutally be executed- the standard of proof is extremely high in a death penalty case. But there are many people working here on getting rid of the death penalty. Thats the beauty of the US- every citizen has the power to try to change things he/she doesnt like.

How can you justify USA that refused to sign treaties to forbid mines, chemical weapons, and to reduce polution
I _hope_ you arent talking about the Kyoto protocol- that was the most worthless anti-american "treaty" that was disguised as anti-pollution (and an ineffective anti-pollution treaty at that).

USA don't respect the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child by using death penalty against children (the minimum legal age to be sentenced to death is 14 in some states) and mentally deficient people
Like I said before, there are people working on this.

People dying from starvation and lack of drugs everywhere in the world could be saved with only a little part of the military budget
So let me get this straight- instead of defending ourselves against idiots like Osama and taking care of the needy people in our own country, you think it is our job to spend our money feeding people that dont have the common sense to live in a place with water? We already spend billions a year in humanitarian aid to other countries. The only thanks we get is our troops getting murdered in Somalia and psychos flying planes into our buildings.

And Hatch is one of the most respected members of the Senate (he used to be the chairman of the most important committee there). That doesnt sound to me like his opinion is normally ridiculed...
