    I rather pay for more computer gear than traffic costs for some loser that downloads porn DVDs at work then emails them home.

    Would'nt emailing the porn home defeat the purpose of downloading it at work? The crafty abuser of company bandwidth would burn a disc or transfer the porn to their iPod/pocket drive :)

    Explorer.exe does not like to have multiple instances across multiple users, so, the trick is to run iexplore.exe as admin, then browse to the files and you will have full admin privlidges. I use this trick to repair my wireless connection on occasion. Just run IE as admin, type "c:" in the address bar then browse over to "Network Neighborhood" and then "Network Connections" from the sidebar.

    or uninstall a program you installed using "Run-as"?

    Simple. Run the Add/Remove Programs control applet as admin (shift-right-click > Run As...)

    Yes, yes, I realize I said "Patented". I meant to say "Trademarked". Sorry for the confusion. Next. my post was meant to be taken lightly with a bit of humor. I, of course, *do* realize that "MMX" technology has been available since the P2MMX. You see, "M" and "X" are also both roman numerals. When you put them together it equates to 2010 (1000+1000+10).

    You see, I was pointing out that just because Intel trademarked a series of letters that happened to correspond to roman numerals does not mean that they inteneded the Roman numeral usage.

    As far as "cutting the guy down", there are lot of other posts you could be choosing to comment on that simply called the guy a "loser". I am simply pointing out that the things that people choose market and invest time and effort into seem a little silly. I mean, have we become so mundane and vapid a society that we find a guy standing in line for a movie for 5 months something worthy of publishing a book about. I'm all for indie zines and micropublishers and being original and creative, but this whole thing reeks of "look at meeee! look at meeeeee!!! look how hip and cool I am!!! i am soooooo blogging this!!!! woo-hooo!!!"

    I should write something about you on my "blog" but would that give you delusions of grandeur?

    Knock yourself out.

    I think this is just a publicity stunt and he'll be gone in a few days once he gets his name in all the papers.

    I have to agree on the publicity stunt thing, I think it's kinda clear this guy desperately needs attention (personally, i find that people who do things only for the purpose of generating attention to themselves pretty damn annoying). I don't think he'll be gone in a few days though; this guy strikes me as the kinda guy who is going to milk this thing for all (he thinks) its worth. I mean, this guy thinks enough of his stunt that he is publishing a "blog" about it and is entertaining the possibility of a book deal.

    Can you say "delusions of grandeur?"

    It's faster if you turn off the animations and use solid backgrounds as opposed to wallpaper, but yes, it is much slower (compared to running without it) no matter how you slice it.

    XP Powertoys includes a virtual desktop manager. There are also other 3rd party pager/virtual desktop managers for XP and OSX.

    The fact that useless software (and products in general) that does not make you nicer, more knowledgeable, or more intelligent can generate so much revenue is beyond common sense.

    For starters, I have no interest in spending my money on something that makes me "nicer". What the hell is something that makes you "nicer" anyway? Prozac?

    Secondly, have you looked at the things that people spend money on? You don't have to delve too deeply into the economy to see that people don't spend the majority of their moeny on "things to make them more knowledgeable, or more intelligent". What does "common sense" have to do with anything?

    But the saddest part is that I am actually contributing to that trend.

    No, the saddest part is you didn't have he foresight to realize that a piece of software designed to catalog your software isn't going to make you "nicer", "more knowledgeable" or "more intelligent". It's a goddamn pretty database application. Were you expecting to achieve enlightenment or something after you installed it?

    Just a note: I have a copy of Back Orifice 2K on my laptop for running some chores on several machines on my home network (the boPeep plugin is very handy) which is detected by NAV2004, and Spybot as a trojan (it can be) but it is not detected by MS Anti-Spyware. Interesting.

    I would HATE to have BO2K on my machine without knowing it.

    It's not obvious that an itelligent designer would allow for 9.0 earthquakes creating tsunamis that kill 100,000+. It's not obvious that an itelligent designer would include cancer in his creation. It's not obvious that an intelligent designer would create a race of beings capable of destroying themselves in their immaturity.

    Maybe it's not to you. Perhaps it's not even "obvious" to me, but I don't see those things as a stumbling block to seeing that the universe is by design.

    You can't really argue with this, since by arguing, you're acknowledging that an intelligent designer is not self-evident.

    Oh, but I *can* argue with this...just because I don't understand the designers PLAN does not mean that the EXISTENCE of said designer is not self evident. I am by no means saying I believe in Jesus or Mohammed or Krishna or Buddah or whatever...I am simply saying that the intelligence that went into creating the universe is clearly visible by observing the universe itself.

    Every time I see an article that expresses the differences in opinion between creationists and evolutionists I wonder: "Am I the only person on the planet who can clearly see that they are in no way mutually exclusive?"

    Then I realize that it would be very egocentric of me to actually think that I am the only one who sees things this way.

    I mean, for me, just looking around at the world around me is proof enough that there is an intelligence that created the universe and myself as well. No "faith" or "belief" is required. It's just obvious.

    Isn't it obvious that the universe we live in has been created by an intelligent being and that the mechanism that that being chose to develop this universe can be described by the theory of evolution?

    What am I missing here?

    It really depends on where you work. AdAware and Spybot S&D are two applications that work well and have a proven track record of being legitimate tools to combat spyware/adware/malware. Unfortunately, there are many more applications out there that are either (A) blatant rip-offs of these two legit programs, (B) Spyware disguised as anti-spyware or (C) BOTH.

    This is not to say that there are not other legitimate programs out there, but sadly, if it's not on the short list of proven applications it should be scrutinized before it is endorsed.

    I believe you have to have MS Office's indexing on to search WITHIN files like you are saying. I just ran the Windows XP search tool, gave it a path full of Word Docs that certaily contain the word "Norton" and it could NOT find them (I chose "advanced search" and chose to search witin files). I am fairly certain that you have to have indexing turned on (it MAY be by default, I'm not sure, but I leave it off).
