If I ever download a movie, it's so I can watch some of it and decide if it's worth shelling out the $30 to go see. It's about $30 because:$9 for me, $9 for my g/f, and the rest for popcorn/etc. Can't bring in outside food or drink anymore. Can't even bring in a backpack, either - post 9/11 fears and "anti-piracy measures" gone too far.
I don't care if the movie looks like crap on my computer. I'm not interested in keeping most movies anyway. If I like it, I'll go see it in the theatre or wait for the DVD.
This really isn't a bad thing. Heck, since the MPAA is purposely altering movies, maybe they should go ahead and let us download stuff and leave p2p alone. If the stuff on p2p is of such low-quality, what is the big problem?
Oh, the problem is that we'll watch it and realize that the movie sucks and we won't shell out $$ to go see it. I wish I could have my money back from John Carpenter's "Vampires" - aside from 1 hot nude chick, that movie was a total waste of time and money.
What's the address? I figure that sending them a photocopy of my ass will be worth more than their "license" will be. At the very least, it'll be more entertaining. Heh.
I *really* don't want my VoIP service to wind up with more than 6 different taxes like my old Pacific Bell service did. I pay PUC/etc taxes on my internet connection already. I really don't want to be double-dipped for my VoIP service.
Well, yet again we see that the attention goes to those that have the $$$. See, NY Times gets hacked by Lamo (did he actually do any *damage* or was the "financial loss" just for cleanup/etc?) yet we've seen 3 RBL providers DDoS'd off the face of the earth while the FBI does absolutely nothing. An RBL operator had a hard time even getting anybody to answer the phone about it.
In California, people already are suing.. but people are passing it off as "ACLU whining" as usual. The Republicans that bankrolled the recall simply don't care.
Some years ago, a record store chain did exactly that. They had a machine that would make you a custom compilation album out of tracks you chose in the store. It eventually went away.. It might have been the Wherehouse, but I don't remember the exact chain. My point was that it's already been done and it didn't last. =/
Mountain View, CA is where Verisign is located, guys.. the City of Mountain View is NOT suing Verisign.:P
Verisign now lurks in the old Netscape buildings at the intersection of E. Middlefield & Ellis in Mountain View. Feel free to take a leak into the fountain in the yard.:)
I'll be an idiot and reply to myself. My point was that this might not cause more users to use crypto if it's cost-prohibitive and nobody buys it. Big companies, maybe - small business? doubtful.
No, that's not the lesson. The lesson should be "Make www.microsoft.com/security" your homepage.:P
Windows Update can really break stuff. Example: Compaq Evo n600 laptops with our Windows 2000 build. That ATI driver that shows up in Windows Update causes a BSOD on restart. You have to revert to the previous version of the driver.
Running Windows Update and going click-happy can cause more harm than good sometimes.
Yeah, you work at a sloppy place!;) I worked at a place that required you to come to the IT help desk *in person* with your badge and a state-issued photo ID in order to get a password reset.
Damn it, I told my girlfriend that she just talked way too much on the phone...
I've never heard of "Dillo" until just now.
Do users really want a web browser that's pretty much perpetual shareware?
IE is at least "completed." Any subsequent releases are "new versions" - not just "beta 2" to them.
* Changing to VBR was good, but...
* Emailing you claiming "excessive usage" was BAD, especially when I was just trying to re-download my catalog.
* Limiting the number of things you could have in the queue was lame. I used to queue up a few albums and go to sleep. That was put to an end. =/
I cancelled my subscription about 3 weeks ago. I was considering going back, until today....
Yeah, SFTP/SCP with applications like WinSCP work out as a nice replacement.
There are several "FTP apps" that support SFTP.
Dreamweaver allows you to do SFTP/SCP via PuTTY, too.
See?! Telnet & FTP aren't on the list anymore.
And Gopher! YEAH!
Enough of this ASP/PHP/SSL/SSH crap. Give us the OLD stuff back!
When I was growing up, we had telnet and we liked it!
If it's *really* important, they'll come to my office with an offering of fresh donuts from Winchell's.
:-)
Then I'll do it.
SF Bay Area. I think that Century has a policy against "large purses & backpacks" these days.
:)
The Century theatres have their own snack areas. They want to keep you there and make you spend $ on their foods.

Results came back that were commerce sites?
:P
Not surprising, considering the big cesspool shopping mall the internet has become.
Uh, it's had water in it for a long time. :P When I was at Netscape, they'd drain it and clean it every once in a while. :)

Vonage also lowered the monthly fee, too.

Probably not. They're too busy asking Georgy Russell (www.georgyforgov.com) if she wears boxers or briefs.
If Slashdot gets ahold of Dean.. let's hope they'll actually ask *decent* questions instead of stupid stuff.

But, DDoS Yahoo and you're a felon. *sigh*

Damn it, I'd still *use* Gopher if people hadn't taken down all of their Gopher servers and replaced them with this "World Wide Web" crap. :P
:P
Information via plain ol' text. I like it. No Flash ads in Gopher.

Who do I cough up the arm & leg to?
I didn't see a price on the website, but I'd guess that these things aren't exactly cheap.

Or, they could have put up a camera and started a damn cool pr0n site. :P

I wonder if they're checking each machine for mp3s & other RIAA/MPAA type material too. :P
