My first lesson with an improperly configured Linux box outside the firewall was when my ISP called asking about some insane bandwidth use. What? I checked the box and it seemed fine. Found out the traffic was on FTP, which I was not using. Sure enough, tons of porn and other files were getting uploaded and downloaded... all the files in a hidden directory.

But you kept the pr0n, right?

They asked nothing in return, but it was obvious that they were hoping to get a mention on my page (it was pretty popular...about 5,000 readers at its peak...remember this was the mid-90's). I remember reading once that even if the moon were made of solid gold, any mining effort would still lose quite a bit of money due to tremendous launch/return costs that are between $7000 and $20000 per pound. Even if you brought a metric ton of gold back you'd be losing money.

The disparity grows even more when you start talking about mining asteroids.

Not only that, but I wouldn't lose 10U to a Monitor/Keyboard in every rack (Yes, you can get a rack mountable LCD/Keyboard tray but you still need a KVM, and they are *expensive*).
