Now don't take me wrong. I appreciate how much of a technical marvel this is, but....
The test ban was enacted so that nations would STOP designing better planet-busters. Now we have shown that it is possible for people to design nukes in thier basement (assuming their basement has a 12 teraflop computer).
Should we feel any more secure knowing that India and Pakistan can now quietly design better atomic arsenals to annihilate each other with?
Crist! I wish I hadn't wasted my mod points modding down "funny" posts. I finally see a post so full of sanctimony and arrogance that it REALLY deserves to be shitcanned and I can't do anything about it.
I just do not see how you can make the Courts of Chaos or the GhostWheel in a movie today. Even having the budget for all Star War flicks combined with the budget for Titanic and Independence Day.
1) Forget about the Merlin Chronicals(they were crap compared to the Corwin books anyway). Merlin and Ghostwheel will have to get their own miniseries.
2) There really isn't anyting in Corwin's stories that is all that extravagent. Near all of it occurrs in non-fantastic settings (in rooms/tents/clearings etc). The bits that are fantastic (battles, shadow shifting, pattern walking) won't really require any more CGI work than Dune did.
We tried both ebeam and mimeo a few years ago and I have to say that while both were great, the ebeam is the superior tech.
The ebeam had this great feature that it could set up a web server on its host PC that broadcast your presentations to an applet. We tied it in with some collaboration software that we were working on at the time and ended up with a fairly powerful distributed conference tool (shared whiteboard + audio all stored in an database for later review).
We also had this great setup with a rear projection screen and a set of dried up markers. (we used dried up markers since we didn't actually want to draw on the surface of the screen). We would "write" on the screen and the ebeam would capture the pen inputs and send them off to program that turned the pen coordinates into mouse events. The mouse events would feed back into the shared whiteboard application and draw the line on the screen. From the front row it looked just like you were drawing right on the screen. Customers really loved it.
We had similar problems with our mimeo, but we found that with only a small amount of practice even the pointiest haired boss could learn to use it.
The key was that we never let anyone use the thing without first setting it up in his office and making him go through his presentation with us first. By hooking it up to their PC the PHB got instant feedback as to when the pen was active and when it was not. (...of course, we did loose a few PHBs when the quick learning curve overtaxed their walnut sized brains and they died much deserved deaths, but I digress)
ANYWAY, the small amount of inconvenience spent spinning up on mimeo ops makes it well worth the $$$ you pay for it. It sure beats the heck out of buying a $10,000+ wall sized LCD screen
>I would be far more worried about biological attacks on the water supply.
Don't sweat it. It would take many truckloads of contaminants to endanger the water supply of most metropolitan areas. (According to an expert one of our local talk shows brought in). He did point out though that some area are more vulnerable than others.
I wrote a flame thrower mode for Doom YEARS ago. It was actually rather simple. I just mod'd the range/refire_delay for an existing gun then inserted some custom graphics into the WAD file.
Sure is bogged down some of the slower systems, but it ran just fine for those of us with l33t 486s.
What about Windows CE powered devices?

Funny, I would have mod'd this as Troll.

... for these people.
They've designed an entire keyboard around the concept of the game pad.

No wonder we're getting so much Spam.
While the American Congress debares the legality cloning the Chineese forge boldly onward.
Need a new liver? Need a new kidney? How about a heart? Go to China cause you won't be able to get them in America.
...and you better bring cash cause I don't think they're going to take credit cards.
Its Grrrrrreat!
... ohh sorry... wrong cereal.
I've been using one of these at home for about 20 years, to change the channel on my tv set.
While it's technically not a "laser", I feel its worth mentioning since I couldn't really have developed a healthy paunch without it.
I'll be damned! It worked!
Maybe it'll work for me!
I declare that this comment can also be only modded up!
... because if I can come up with it you can be damn sure that someone else already has....and they might not be quite so scrupulious as I am.
People would need to be warned.
didn't that episode end with that hive being BLOW'D UP?
It says a lot about a film when an editor refuses to allow his name to be put into the credits.
>If not, then revolution.
You have much more faith in the American people than I.

Sure I may not have root when the macro runs, but it can still damage my stuff and proliferate.
I agree with you whole heartedly.
At least in this case the Bang for the Buck choice is obvious. Even at $170 the NForce boards blow away the KT266s.
Oooh! Oooh! Don't forget your toes! That's 4 switches!

Quoth Lenny Bruce: "There's nothing sadder than an ageing hipster."
I'm curious. Under what circumstances do you call each of the languages you mentioned?
As one of my former employers said, "Thats the cost of doing business."
