    Doesn't matter. After the lawsuits of the 80's and 90's there are now "best practices" and "standards of care" and standards for almost everything because you can't just sue. You have to prove someone did something wrong.

    Same here. Industry will make up some best practices, it will be a certification or some other process that costs a lot of money, it will mean hiring people to push the paper and make sure the paperwork is right and everyone will pay.

  9. Just look at medical devices. They don't cost that much to make but have to go through a long certification process that needs to be paid back.

    Same with software. Something like SOX, PCI or HIPAA will pop up to certify "secure software" and software that is patched on a regular basis and people will end up paying for it. And on top of that every piece of software will be "certified" on some platform, similar to a game console. If you run it outside of the certified hardware you lose the ability to sue.

    You're all idiots if you think you will be able to run software on some of the ridiculous configurations I've seen in my time and expect vendors to pay for it when it breaks because of your stupidity.

    Direct TV Now and Sling have local baseball games for some markets and will have the NFL. And they had the NBA playoffs and finals

    The Beatles were the pop teenie girl sensations of their day. People grew up and remember it as some kind of high art. Just like when jazz first started and it was only in the clubs with illegal drinking and graduated to big bands once the fan base aged. Same thing is happening with rock and metal

  13. It's been like this for years. Qualcomm chips have 8 cores and run at 2GHz or some ridiculous speeds but for real performance Apple chips beat them any day. Apple has lots of custom silicon and their OS uses it

    Maybe there is someone else. These are wire services who publish a lot of the raw stories the other news organizations pick up and republish and pay to do so. If it's a really big story CNN and others will send their own reporters out.

    Why are you standing in line at the post office? They have these cool machines you can use to buy postage and then just put it into the box. Or you can use their website to pay and print a shipping label and just take it to the post office and put it in the box

    I'm in Queens and i've seen the B&N stores close. B&N still has stores here but they are in expensive locations and the ones that closed were too close to other stores so what happened was women would drop their kids off to read some books while they went shopping in other stores nearby.

    The new Amazon store is by Penn Station and away from most residential areas and too far from virtually all women's clothing store. It's a nice location to stop by to pay money for a book on the way home.

    B&N even had the nerve to charge something like 30% more for the same book in their store compared to their own website.

    It's not going to happen because Apple has to go through the same carrier certification and not after what Apple did to AT&T all those years ago with buggy iphones polling the network all the time.

    But when the day comes when all the android makers stop relying on the carriers for retail and warranty services, you might get your wish.

    Apple is playing hardball by not paying them. Hard to run a business with no money coming in.

    Why can't Qualcomm simply refuse to sell to Apple until the lawsuit is done? Kind of hard to build iPhones with no radio chips in them. And I bet it's just as hard for Intel to ramp up production to cover the shortfall.
