    once the cable companies got rid of analogue cable it freed up a lot of bandwidth for internet and HD video and lessened the need for fiber to the home

    actually it was

    the railroads were built by cheap government backed loans and the protection of the US Army. lots of other infrastructure was built by the government or with heavy government support. very few are dumb enough to risk their own money on risky business adventures

    i remember the good old days 20 years ago when a trace route across state lines resulted in a few dozen hops and a dozen or so different network providers with each one adding latency

    streaming video was impossible on the old internet before the ISP's and backbone networks began to merge

  5. it's not the revenue, but the profit. accessories have always been huge profit drivers. they might only be a few percent of total profits but for earnings it will be a few cents a share and the difference between a plunging stock or a soaring stock price

    one of the first shows on TV with minorities and white people working together in top jobs and not just as janitors

    a lot of the episodes were based on themes of diversity and how it's stupid to not like people because of skin color

    here in NYC data from AirBnb showed that most of the apartments for rent for always available for rent because the owners were making more money on it then renting them out as housing. in a lot of cases it was affordable housing with special tax breaks being used as a money maker

  9. i remember the days of Ma Bell and telephone service used to be expensive. like you rent a cheap phone for a lot of money expensive and pay per minute for local calls and long distance is calling 5 miles away to the next switch or area code. and if you wanted to call across the country to some family member it would be a once a year 10 minute call because it cost a day's wages

    you people are whining because you can't get fiber at a cheap price

    last time i needed a lightning cable i just went to best buy and bought their house brand cable for like $15. a lot better than original apple cable too.

    except the new monthly plans cost just as much as AT&T and verizon and t-mobile has said they are going to do away with the current plans in the next year or two

    everyone does it. you pick 5% to 10% of your customer base and get them to pay more $$$ to you for some service

    i don't use that much data so i don't really care about your right to watch youtube or netflix 24 hours a day everywhere you go

    yes, because if there is no pay up front discount then you are stupid for paying upfront and not stretching the payments out over 24-30 months

  23. i see some movies in the theater for weeks. with digital projection it's a lot easier to squeeze older movie showings in than dedicating a theater with the old film projector

    you still have lots of bills to pay like rent, salaries, taxes and dozens of others which is why the concessions make money and tickets are a money loser.
