Instead of Competition, how about "Worthy Rivals"? Open Source rivalry's may bring out underlying personality conflicts, raging prejudice and flames... But the source is always open. (Think OpenBSD and it's offshoots)

Heh. Ask the owners of class 'D' radio stations in the early 80's. NPR was one of the main culprits behind the "Professionalism in Broadcasting" initiatives.
"There has grown up in the minds of certain groups in this country the notion that because a man or corporation has made a profit out of the public for a number of years, the government and the courts are charged with the duty of guaranteeing such profit in the future, even in the face of changing circumstances and contrary to public interest. This strange doctrine is not supported by statute or common law. Neither individuals nor corporation have any right to come into court and ask that the clock of history be stopped, or turned back"
Witch brings up the yukky point: If you take a sample of your own muscle tissue, grow it in culture and sell it to cannibals, is it unethical, immoral or just silly?
The service, named "freedom of mobile multi-media access", or Foma, will initially be limited to a 30-kilometre (20-mile) radius around the centre of Tokyo.
Wonder if the creators of the acronym read too much Kurt Vonnegut in high school.

... I am the kind of pollyanna cretin who beleived the guy when he put forth the story that he was being punished for doing his competitor a favor. "Why you bad men always pick on nice hacker fellers? You mean men!"
The theft and the defacement are so banal. The really bad part is how angry I got at the "injustice" done him by the unthinking cops.

One of the funniest scenes in cinema. It was the first thing I thought of too!:-)
I second that emotion. I have used my copy of Lutz and Ascher's _Learning_Python_ to tatters. I am a bit of an old fart (35) and have just started programming in earnest this year. After going through this very clear book and writing several programs that are now in daily use at my job, C, C++ and perl now make sense. I beat my head against the wall for months with the "usual" languages for months before finding this book. Good stuff.

The beautiful circular chuckle is: Python has a dandy turtle graphics module.
Good info, thanks.

Guess I can let my installation certs lapse now... :-)
Too bad. A decent service if you don't have access to cable/dsl.

Arrrrrrrghhghghghghghhggggghhhhh!
Can you do that all the time or are you just seized by it when all the chemicals are in the right proportions?

Lemme guess: hybrid?
We had similar problems with madly misconfigured lans... most were using wingate or the like.
That has got to be one of the quickest weekend slashdottings ever....

Excellent point. Those with high Karma (by definition) are the users who add the most value to slashdot.
Perhaps a bucks worth of adlessness could be appended to a users account for every karma point, or a maximum level of points over time.
I concour. Please set up a visa/mc/discover option. PayPal gives me gas.
Actually Capek came up with the name "Robot". It is a play on the czech word for "slave".
I wonder if they have line of sight between the ISP-equipped village and their village. Hmmm....
Seems like a good candidate for a wireless link.

Sorry cops.
Is an example of the kind of cool head that will prevail.
No bellrin' pain and threatening lawsuits. I am once again pleased that some folks are able to keep their wits about them in stressful situations.
Go Phil!
Wow. That sucks. Was there no choice to _not_ install it?
Thanky.
Any links to this primestar dish scheme? It sounds interesting.
Weird, man. Is this the case? What is the world coming to?
