Imagine if all the companies that used embedded linux in their devices like the linksys and belkin routers were to install seti or any other distributed number crunshing item to tap the unused processor power of the devices....
It means that if your cell phone number is (999) 555-0999, then you can keep that number even if you start out with sprint and move to verizon or att or whomever... (barring contract clauses that may say you will be charged $XXX for leaving before the plan period ends...) of course there will be a "fee" associated with having a portable number...
Well here are the MD5 sums of the files as downloaded by me from the original site [and verified with several other ppl who downloaded it from the original site].... if anyone has a different md5sum then they should look closer at their copy of the files....
Hmm... maybe the only way for him to get out of his "contract" might be to get fired by aol?
There may be a non-compete or other clause making it that if he quits, then he may have to give back some of the money/NOT be able to do what he likes.. (ie: he has more freedom now as an employee than he would if he quit; but not as much as if he was fired)....
"AIM Enterprise Gateway Now available, AIM Enterprise Gateway increases the value and manageability of AIM for organizations. Deployed onsite, AIM Enterprise Gateway acts as a proxy between users inside the corporate firewall and those on the public AIM network, enabling enterprises to manage and control employee usage of AIM services. AIM Enterprise Gateway provides Identity Management Services that enable administrators to control access, routing, and permissions. AIM Enterprise Gateway also features Archive and Audit Services that monitor AIM usage, log and audit messages, and create reports. "
(workstations usually get their time from the DC that authorized the login... win2k allows sync with SNTP (subset of the NTP protocol) servers if the windows time service is enabled.. Your DC should be synced to an SNTP source that way the clients get their time updated, as should ANY device that supports (S)NTP and does logging [ie: routers, linux boxes, DC]
Windows Update is time sensitive (among other things). The order and avail. of the patches depends on the date/time set correctly.
Also dont forget that some of that bandwidth that gets tagged as http may be other traffic tunneled through http. [some applications,including some of the newer P2P clients, allow for connections through what the traffic monitor would see as regular http traffic unless it had a more specific filter like the packeteer devices which dont just go by port but by content]
"Oh yeah, it should have an option to start a chat directly between two IP addresses, just like ICQ used to be able to do (before they broke their protocol). "
I dont really consider it "breaking their protocol". More like a better security feature. This way the persons you are chatting with dont need to know your IP address {and may not show up in the local network traffic sniffs} unless you are transferring files.
The reasons for this were due to some ICQ specific hacks/programs that were able to trick ICQ clients into giving out more info than the user wanted to give out.
When you get the money from an ATM or a bank teller, you have to provide some form of trackable ID... (Driver license or an ATM card) which is linked to your pre-existing bank account... Now when you use that bill which ends up in the hands of a drug dealer or prostitute that has just been arrested; they can track it to the closest verifiable source which would be YOU!... From YOU they can then follow the trail of the money to the dealer/hooker..
Doesnt matter how many NAT/VPN/Firewalls you have... all thats needed is ONE l^huser going to somereallycoolwebpage that had been 0wn3d that is using some recent flaw in IE/outlook/etc to make the "inside" system make the request; thus bypassing the NAT/Firewall protection...
As for the VPN... you are only as protected as yor vpn users machine is... [I have seen MANY VPN installations that allow full access to the inside once the VPN is established... Problem is that if the users machine is infected, they are now essentially "carriers" that can infect the unpatched/lightly patched inside network through the vpn]
The other issue that I have also noticed is that many vendors are now not giving out the full extent of what a patch fixes fearing that an exploit would be released before they are ready for it. Some are issuing patches to fix problems that they have known about for a while, and feel that its "time" for the patches to be installed/ or a recent issue makes the "old" issue much more dangerous when combined with the recent issue...
WU is date specific. {some updates wont show up as availible till a particular date on the system arrives}
Some updates have also been modified.. In other words... you may have the "original v1.0" version of a patch. They find that it has a problem, and release "v2.1" of a patch.. The Q # stays the same, but the details/file versions get updated... {also related to date on how it decides it needs to reinstall a patch}
The conspiracy theorist might think that it is done on purpose... By doing so, the interviewer is giving more credence to the RIAA's actions... This also makes it so that lil ol grandma now equates RIAA with the governement as well such that next time the RIAA does something the thought would be "its the govt. suing the kid so they MUST have done something wrong"
Ah... but a judgement in court (even small claims court) goes on the persons credit history... (and stays there even after it is paid) and a few unpaid judements dont look good at all when trying to apply for credit....
"Given enough time and money, Microsoft will eventualy invent UNIX"
Naahh... all they would do is buy out SCO {just to piss off or use it as levarage against IBM} and then claim that since they own it, they own/invented UNIX...
A quick reference for those um... youngg-uns that only know the internet through their http:// based browser....

or here goes, from the Jargon File (4.3.1, 29 Jun 2001)
Godwin's Law prov. [Usenet] "As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."
"There is a tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress. Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread length in those groups. However there is also a widely- recognized codicil that any _intentional_ triggering of Godwin's Law in order to invoke its thread-ending effects will be unsuccessful."
What I have wondered if there is a license that is similar to the GPL except for ONE {albeit MAJOR }difference... Allow everyone the rights that the GPL gives except for a particular "group" that can be specified in the license....
example: anyone can use and distribute my software or services except for those affiliated with
1- Competitior company A 2- WTAMU.EDU students and staff 3- ARN.NET customers and employees 4- Some specific Person B (wtjoker) and their workplace (wtjoker-work) 5- Those listed at some particular url (http://example.com/bannedaccess/)
You also just made the venodr of the software very happy (especially if there are not that many of their sites that use sco) since that means that there are less configurations to support. [could be why they were so eager to get you to use the linux version]
I know of several companies that had sco versions of software that had changed to Linux versions.
One even offered their existing SCO users "free" feature/product upgrade and a "free" 3 months of additional "prime" support...
The problem with this method is that bulk spammers also send to all possible names@domain.com hoping to get a few through.
I use a similar method, but without the wildcard address. I specifically add the address(s) to the forward list [yes, zoneedit also lets you do that]... Just be sure to be rfc compliant... {postmaster, abuse, etc to forward to your ISP box as well}:-)

Now that Shareaza now has .torrent support in its newest beta (1.8.9.0), it should bring in quite a bit of content to the "network"...

Most high end server boards require that the memory be ECC registered that needs to be installed in pairs...
an example of such a board is the Intel SCB2.
[that board can go up to 6GB ram and has 6 sockets]
