The excuse that gator has is that they were "invited in". It doesnt matter that they were invited in because they were "dressed like girl scouts offering cookies" and instead came in, painted cookies on your wall, and put ads for their location on your windows...
looks like they have a full T1 which under nomal circumstances would be more than enough... (getting on the front page of/. is NOT normal circumstances)

in some cases the fact that you have a security clearance is part of the nda...
My guess is that the user with the skips is using the default windows drivers for his system.
In many cases when windows installs and finds drivers for a system they are MINIMAL drivers.. just enough to get the system started. The manufacturer usually has better up-to date drivers that may work better.
This is especilly true for Network cards, chipset drivers and IDE controllers... actually.. Now that I think of it, I would say for ALL drivers... check to see if there is a newer one avail....
example: updating the IDE driver may enable UDMA 5 transfers which would speed up data transfers
oh.. and do all the windows updates.. (example, XP has a fix for certain usb 1.1 and 2.0 controllers that is avail from windowsupdate)...
if you want the next version to work with proxy, my suggestion is to click on help | provide itunes feedback... and fill out that form....
If they realize that there are many windows users with admins that have networks behind proxies for whatever reason, they may code it into their next version.... [in this case it is advantageous to them so be able to make more sales.....]
Thats on the "default" install... but the RH cds (methinks #3, but not sure... but it IS on there somewhere) have wuftpd on them... (you have rpm -e vsftp first, then manually rpm -U wuftp)
We have a client that has remote site data collection units that are dialed into periodically to pick up reports. The modem on the units (which have been running flawlessly since '91) are old 1200 baud modems. Since its not broken, there was no need to replace the units...

dameware for NT http://www.dameware.com/ has been used by MANY crackers to remote control and take over systems.
It has been installed by crackers via automated scripts exploiting the same code that recent trojans have used to silently install the "application" and then use it to control the systems. [I have seen at least five that have been compromised within hours of the exploits announcements. The managers of the systems thought that they had patched in time but they were mistaken... check the services]
Initially McAfee detected it as an unwanted program until the dameware software company complained/lobbied to get it off the list of unwanted programs. http://www.dameware.com/support/faq/faq .asp?ID=FAQ 1066 . You do the math on that one... Who is to be served better? the users of the application or the users of the antivirus program? At the very least nai should have a way for the user to select which items are to stay on the list/selectivly disable its detection if one has a legit use for the app and chooses to do so..
hmm... never thought that someone would want to find a way to cause windows to blue screen on purpose... It seems to like to do that on its own....
but seriously.... someone should write an app to bring up the task manager instead, or a "dos app" that has its own "space" that would allow for some control of the dump process or access to a recovery console of some time.... Make it non-default (ie: you have to enable it) and "exitable"; to return to "normal" mode....:-)
the same reason that USBGear.com and "affiliates" charge 2-3x what ebay sellers and even the local Frys does for the same/similar items.
1- The web page has "fuelcell" in the name... That makes it more prominent in web searches and people usually remember the site nate better.
2- Rebranding of cheaper items with their own "recognisable" label
3- Its the begining of a product cycle. The manufacturer wants to get as much money now so that when the patent runs out, or someone figures how to clone its functionality without breaking the law, then they would have already gotten as much as possible...
An online activation can give them ALOT of information... Just the IP address alone is a goldmine... [possible geographical location, ISP, bandwidth]....
Then comes the host name and general info like memory, network card, etc that might be sent as part of the PC profile... example: they might know how many XP users use AMD chipsets vs Intel chipsets... How much memory people have on their PCs; what kind of video cards are out there; hard drive sizes etc...
Its true that the info might not be "Personally Identifiable information"... {though I disagree; an IP address CAN be personally identifiable} but as an aggregate it is one of the things that gives any company that does online registration an edge. Examples for MS might be when deciding for example which driver to include in the next release of the OS, or even if they should go for nvidia or ati for the Xbox 3....
someone would say that since you hooked up the PC, and did NOT do a windowsupdate to get the latest patches installed, then you might also be partly to blame.. the patch WAS avail. [also you seem to foget that the cycle between imaging the drive and actually shipping can take at LEAST a couple of months]..
A lot of hardware manufacturers that make "embedded" systems like APs, cable modems, routers, etc used trancievers that the general market would consider "old tech" on their boards so that the product can be made cheaper.... [the board probably has the equiv of a Pent 100 with an ISA bus and a ISA PCMCIA bridge that can handle 2 cards]
he may also be using the default MS shipped drivers for his chipset...
I can tell you that there is a HUGE preformance gain when the updated chipset drivers are installed for MANY PCs... [weather its the VIA 4in1's or the Intel INF/Network Card/Disk Acceleration util {IDE choipset driver}] or even the Video card driver....
each one of the above requires a reboot....
I recently installed a system that needed 17 reboots to get everything to the LATEST version and working right... [now to install SP4 on it].....
Anyone running their own personal mail server or a small buisness (less than ~100 email accounts on a DSL or even fractional T1s) should use their ISPs (or with prior permission) another "smart" mailserver to send out mail (Relay) for them

[I like to have the files in case I need to reinstall); + I always ghost before a sp update + I select the "keep old files"....]

MS Could make their software fight spam better by adding native support for the following two items:
1- Support for DNSBL/RBL style blocklists like ordb and spews in exchange 2000/ make a free addin for exchange 5.5
2- The equiv. of the BIND "Generate" directive to make it so that the MS DNS server can be used for blocklists.
blockbusters strange fee hiarchy is why I went to netflix in the first place....
browsers are what made this worse...
Most modern browsers will assume that if you type "micrsoft" in the address field, that you want to go to "www.microsoft.com"
[opera can have this turned off by selecting preferences | network | server name completion]
