Is it really a "larger Android market" if you do not count the devices stuck with old Android versions? Last time I saw statistics of Android versions, only a small percentage was using the latest major version, another small percentage was stuck with the previous major version and the rest went as far back as four major versions ago. That's like complaining that my iPhone 3GS isn't supported anymore, except that low-end Android devices still ship with old versions of the OS today, even as brand-new phones.

Arduino clones on eBay with a stepper motor shield and non-NEMA stepper motors shouldn't cost that much.

The cost can be much, much lower if you don't mind slow, low-precision, plastic-geared steppers made for controlling A/C vents (28BYJ-48). With an Arduino Pro mini, the setup could be around USD$10 for the Arduino and three motors with drivers.

You can also salvage from average to excellent stepper motors from old 8" and 5-1/4" floppy drives, old matrix/laser/inkjet printers and old scanners. If you can figure out how to use the built-in driver of the printer/scanner, you also save yourself from the trouble of finding power supplies and drivers for those motors.

And Golddess's math assumes the full cost of running the wireless router while my argument was about the extra cost of having the secondary part of the router enabled. The Apple Airport Express (PDF) requires a maximum of 2.2 watts, which is 7.27 times less power, or about 0.23 cents per month for the whole router running at maximum capacity.
