Yes,..two buidlings down is the easy answer for everything from wiretapping to the drug war.
Two? Where did you learn how to count? Might want to do some research on what was destroyed at the WTC COMPLEX.
Latest focus on that "drug war" nonsense was the FBI is dropping that stuff and tossint it back where it belonged in the first place (questionable wether it belongs at all) to local law enforcement. Perhaps that news slipped by you too.
The rest of your statements only prove your bias, namely that it was fine for the Soviets to invade Afghanastan and wrong for the US to oppose it, wrong for UBL to fight against them. UBLs "got a little uppity" was manifisted as attacks on embassys and other non-combatants.
If the US is allowed to do something, why shouldnt another country be allowed to do the same?
Nobody "allows" the US to spy anyplace, that is why operatives do not have "I am a spy" tattooed on their foreheads. Your statement makes no sense at all.
Yes, the Cold War is over and I got several destroyed buildings in lower manhattan and a smashed piece of our military headquarters in Arlington, VA that says there is a hot war on now.
Actually, we had something like that when I was a fireman and still married. I thought it was the silliest thing when my wife was responding to a play on the viewer as if they were talking to her. She got upset when I told her how silly she was.
I then taught myself how to read and kept books from the libraries that we responded to.
Eventually my wife turned me in and I was forced to burn my boss and the others from the firehouse. I fled to the wood and memorized a book for history.
BTW, I am still pissed at that Schwartznagar (ok, I can read but my spelling sucks) guy ripped off my escape, as well as the media spin used on the transmission, and used it in "The Running Man".
After Slashdot reported "(both numbers are on the decline due to the rise of DVD)"

You are obviously getting your "news" about various outlets second hand. Try watching it for real.
Especially since I mentioned 2 outlets that habitually show press briefings in their entierty, rather than paraphrasing them. They also do plenty of in depth reporting, something you might try on this topic.
Chomsky has done for Economics and Political Science what Erich von Daniken has done for Archiology, Astronomy and Engineering.
Namely not a damn thing except to misinform a bunch of jelly-filled minds.

The media do not tell you anything but what the government will allow them to.....
Umm, a quick look at FoxNews will tell you everything you are saying about "the media" is false. Not sure what spoon-fead-by-the-feds news you are watching, but FoxNews has been saying pretty much the same thing you are saying, and raising the same questions, the whole time. I suspect other news outlets do too, just responding with my personal observations.
Are you someplace where the government owns the media? Like England, or Cuba?
Perhaps you need DirectTV, a cable subscription, or just hang around someplace that plays the news in public.
The FBI, SS, IRS and every other flavor of cop has been showing up at hacker gatherings for ages, I do not see where it has ever stopped them before.
They were also taking down license plate numbers at KKK meetings, neo-Nazi meetings and all sorts of other gatherings forever, they never stopped.
Within the past 10 years they have testified in court about infiltrating "Militia" groups and inciting them to build bombs. Also they have been coaxing sepratists into illegal weapons modifications, inventing charges of drug manufacture just to attack sepratists. They have invented charges of child molestation and weapons "violations" to destroy a church.
Seems many folks are getting worked up about a press announcement stating that doing things different means doing the same thing they were doing before, except now they will be paying attention to violent crime/terrorism, hopefully without joining in.
It's a political issue as well, in that China needs to balance the flow of royalty money going out of their country...
You mean *true* piracy (vs. the MPAA accusations against coders) does not curb the flow of royalties enough already? Wow, these Commies are pretty crafty!
If you hate anti-trust, then the rest of the American capitalist system must piss you off pretty bad too.
Yes, exactly! The part where government interfears with business to be specific.
Anti-trust has a place in any non-laissez-faire capitalist system. If you want to create a pure capitalist system, that's one thing. But the US system doesn't even remotely resemble pure capitalism.
Yep, and those of us that disagree with the way things are now are working on correcting that problem.
Pure capitalism is probably unworkable due to national security issues alone.
I seriously doubt that, but a complete lack of regualtion may be unworkable for completely different reasons, i.e., relying on "news" spread through a market to inform buyers of shady characters is just a little too far for me, but not much.
Think about it: Well, we generally hate Microsoft, but we also hate censorship on the internet. Here, Microsoft and censorship are on opposite sides. Where does that leave us?
Being a large group of individuals, it leaves those of us that are issue oriented being ticked off at the German court. It still leaves us with plenty of issues to be ticked off at MS about. Some of us even hate anti-trust so we do not fault MS for those violations, but do draw the line at some of their other business practices.
Now, for those that are not issue oriented, it *should* leave them happy that their big monster M$ was defeated.
This leaves the hypocrites, who can choose whatever side they wish.
Are your Marketing folks going to continue with the "Warm Dead Chickens" marketing approach, like OS2, or are they going to get a little flashier like that other OS?
Holy crap!!! Way kewell!! A bit pricey at $499 after trade, but hey the $200 trade in credit is just a little less than what I paid for the VisorPro (VisorPhone was "free").
Hummm... if I return the eyemodule2, that shaves things down to $239 or so...
Dang, you just made my "exclusive" friends list doode!
No kidding! I remember mucho crappola in the 60's from both the Brits and US "theoriticians" on what may happen going to the moon. Too bad all they had to do was go over to NASA and get all of the details they wanted. You know, depict the boxy aluminum LEM instead of the slick Hollywood/Pinewood LEM, etc.
Maybe these guys should checkout the Mars Society. Forgot what sort of return fuel they were planning on, but it was not obtained by cracking H20, it was something completely different.

So, does every country that's at war have the right to spy on you now?
Every country that can will, war or not, and every country that can prevent it will too.
Is it "right"? Depends on how you look at it.
What world are you living in?
Well, yes (need more taps outside the USA) and no (they do not need more inside the USA).
Good article on the topic of tossing them too much power here:
Clarence Page: Fix FBI's culture gap first
In this case, it sounds like they are just using existing powers and capabilities, nothing new. But that "Patriot Act" needs to get canned quick.
Yes, the Cold War is over and I got several destroyed buildings in lower manhattan and a smashed piece of our military headquarters in Arlington, VA that says there is a hot war on now.
You know, somone once said that you can't see national boundries from space, maybe that's something to think about...
Except as noted by another poster, N/S Korea.
Add to that Australia, Greenland, Iceland and no doubt the brown dirt of Haiti is clearly distinguishible from the Dominican Republic.

Despite what the article says, these players will either owe royalties, or they won't be able to play the standard DVD media.
Yea, they can owe all you and I wish for them to, but payments would not exactly fit into their "royalty avoidance" scheme.

Well, we Jeffersonians are not suprized a bit. Nor are we suprized that the Hamiltonians are suprized either LOL!

;-)
Guess I gotta go checkout the new stuff abd break out the credit card
