Sadly i'm afraid this might be an issue as many large news companies tend to report on things they find on other sites, including sites that report fake news :/

because Google can't figure out what they want to do. gchat/xmpp has been abandoned by google for the hangout API, and now the hangout API has been shut down for 3rd party apps... so yeah, one app to do it all is kind of a pipe dream now. Hangouts technically can do sms, google voice, and hangouts, but I assume that will change soon.

yes it does, it will say "sent from google voice" if it was sent that way. Also, if it's sent from google voice there will be a little blue "SMS" by the profile pic, and if it is sent from your cell phone number then there will be a gray "SMS" by the profile pic. If it is sent via hangouts, there's just the profile pic.

Well, in my honest opinion, I would just wait until your google voice is upgraded. The main negative side of hangouts is the confusion if you're sending via google voice or hangouts, and if you use the web site, then you can't send a google voice text without punching in the individuals number. If you type in the person's name, then it won't really search through your contacts but through everyone on G+ that has that name (regardless if you have G+ or not).

so yeay, best to give it a couple weeks for the upgrade (though I heard if you install the APK from androidpolice it will upgrade you instantly).

Assuming you're on android, Try downloading google's "messenger" and set that as your phone's texting app, Then in hangouts when you select "new sms" it should send from your google voice number. Or you can fiddle with your hangouts settings to default or let you choose which number to send from.

Yes it does, because I have used it for group messages. Unfortunately you had to use the phone app for it because there's no way to specify on the hangouts site that you want to use google voice without punching in everyone's bloody phone number. I am so glad that I can drop hangouts soon.

I believe running a custom rom just to get rid of bloat is an overkill when you can just use titaniumbackup to delete the bloat. That and some roms do come with their own bloat, like features that cause issues.

  11. Nexus 4 on Do Android Users Still Use Custom Roms? (androidauthority.com) · · Score: 3, Interesting

I still use a custom rom because Google stopped updating the Nexus 4 and my phone is still working just fine. I run Chroma which runs 6.0.1, whereas the last supported version was 5.1.1. Oddly enough, Chroma is more stable than 5.1.1 was on my phone.

Technically yes if you are recording live to a cassette, because you just need a tape deck and a microphone. With CDs, you still need a computer, software to record the audio, etc.

Now with that being said, he said he also includes a "download code", hence he recorded it to a computer and uploaded, so I have no idea why he would go the tape route unless he wanted to appear retro-cool

  13. Re:Why do they call it the "Gigafactory"? on Tesla Gigafactory Begins Production (reuters.com) · · Score: 5, Informative

The name Gigafactory comes from the factory’s planned annual battery production capacity of 35 gigawatt-hours (GWh). “Giga” is a unit of measurement that represents “billions”. One GWh is the equivalent of generating (or consuming) one billion watts for one hour—one million times that of one kWh. https://www.tesla.com/gigafact...

  14. My nexus 4 did that some times too. I thought it was mostly due to the battery being old (it is an old fone anyway), but other times it would run all the way down to 3% just fine. There's too many reasons or factors that could cause it like overheating or just some app causing some huge error. Or maybe it has some issue with the rom. Actually now thinking about it I don't think i've had the issue on my Nexus since I flashed it to Chroma.

Whenever you purchase any bleeding edge technology you have a higher chance of getting burned that with technology that's been around for some time, it doesn't matter if it's a microsoft product, an apple product, or a damn tamagotchi. It is a risk that you either choose to take or not.
