I think you got the wrong scope of this.

This is about speaking for somebody else right to be different, and the tactics of trying to purge from society people who're actively against indoctrination is the same one pursued successfully in Nazi Germany, which then lead later on to the "final solution" (Die Endlösung der Judenfrage) known as The Holocaust.

That doesn't mean that the US will start mass murdering people anytime soon though, and it's not related to the Holocaust in any way, this kind of tactics have been actively used way before Nazi Germany and they'll keep being used for the time to come, and as citizens is our active duty to call BS on the goverment when it's doing the wrong thing, as it's happening in the UK as well.

I don't want to convert this into a politics discussion, but I just wanted to clarify that your scope was wrong.

It'll become a second natural that a drive spinning faster will consume more energy, even if it's just a bit more than this drive.
I'm not saying this Seagate drive is excellent (reading the specs it really makes me drool) but maybe benchmark testers should do tests with some more "au pair" drives.

Usually on big providers overriding the TTL of the zone is a usual practice for sure, I do that myself in the ISP I'm working for (it's middle sized).

But I don't think they're setting a TTL longer than 24 hours, that would be kind of insane, isn't? At least from my own experience when I did a big DNS servers change (changed all the serials) the delay was less than 24 hours for almost all of them.

Hey! Didn't know you were around here. :)

Well actually the poblem is a lot like that, but actually got kind of deeper.

The big problem with that is that the spammers also used forged addresses, so not only CIS had to deal with tons of e-mails per day but also had to avoid bounces at all costs, since that would mean throttling over some other ISPs as well.

I think the spammer got a really clear confusion confusing CIS with "Compuserve Internet Services" which was the full name of Compuserve

Perhaps that DDoS will make the admin stop the spammer - sounds like a good thing to me!

It's not that easy, due to a spammer's fault our mail servers went from receiving around 10,000 mails per day to 2,000,000 completely overhauling our mail platform.

And the spammer couldn't be stopped since we couldn't trace the source of all the shit, he was using zombified clients.

As said, not an easy thing ;)

Well if the domain that you're bouncing the message back is actually a little one and a spammer is sending like... millions of messages spoofing that domain you're collaborating to a DDoS against that mail server.
