They've been doing this aside from the official UN terrorist groups list for a looong while, i don't think they'll change their behaviour anytime soon.
This is about speaking for somebody else right to be different, and the tactics of trying to purge from society people who're actively against indoctrination is the same one pursued successfully in Nazi Germany, which then lead later on to the "final solution" (Die Endlösung der Judenfrage) known as The Holocaust.
That doesn't mean that the US will start mass murdering people anytime soon though, and it's not related to the Holocaust in any way, this kind of tactics have been actively used way before Nazi Germany and they'll keep being used for the time to come, and as citizens is our active duty to call BS on the goverment when it's doing the wrong thing, as it's happening in the UK as well.
I don't want to convert this into a politics discussion, but I just wanted to clarify that your scope was wrong.
Here it's already 2008 and where new year's have not arrived the iPhone's clock application is showing 01/08/01, doesn't make sense at all. Hope they fix it soon although it's purely aesthetic.
Comparing two 4200rpm drives against the Seagate running at 5400rpm will always make the Seagate a winner. It'll become a second natural that a drive spinning faster will consume more energy, even if it's just a bit more than this drive. I'm not saying this Seagate drive is excellent (reading the specs it really makes me drool) but maybe benchmark testers should do tests with some more "au pair" drives.
I don't think this really qualifies as news at all indeed. Even if jwz is a recognized geek in the community, people should learn to get a life and not post this things into slashdot. AFAIK we don't have daily posts about Rob's life, do we?
Usually on big providers overriding the TTL of the zone is a usual practice for sure, I do that myself in the ISP I'm working for (it's middle sized).
But I don't think they're setting a TTL longer than 24 hours, that would be kind of insane, isn't? At least from my own experience when I did a big DNS servers change (changed all the serials) the delay was less than 24 hours for almost all of them.
Well actually the poblem is a lot like that, but actually got kind of deeper.
The big problem with that is that the spammers also used forged addresses, so not only CIS had to deal with tons of e-mails per day but also had to avoid bounces at all costs, since that would mean throttling over some other ISPs as well.
I think the spammer got a really clear confusion confusing CIS with "Compuserve Internet Services" which was the full name of Compuserve
Daniel Jackson: Our tok-ra informers at SG1archive have informed us of a new system overlord that have appeared suddenly General Hammond: What is the name of this new enemy? Daniel Jackson: Dubya sir, he have defeated the Iraqian overlord Hussein and is coming directly to Earth
Perhaps that DDoS will make the admin stop the spammer - sounds like a good thing to me!
It's not that easy, due to a spammer's fault our mail servers went from receiving around 10,000 mails per day to 2,000,000 completely overhauling our mail platform.
And the spammer couldn't be stopped since we couldn't trace the source of all the shit, he was using zombified clients.
Well if the domain that you're bouncing the message back is actually a little one and a spammer is sending like... millions of messages spoofing that domain you're collaborating to a DDoS against that mail server.
I refuse to support what I consider a complete waste of time and computing resources.
So can I have your /. account? I'd like to drop 200,000 or so from my UID. Impress the ladies, you know?
Six digits is impressive? Kids this days...
Although I understand French and your comment was not trollish at all you should write in English, really :)
I remember the good old times, when in order to post to Slashdot I had to walk 50 miles uphill, both ways!
Now get off my lawn!!!
I second that, you're either under 10,000 or not worthy of impressiveness.

They want their joke back
3:25 UTC will be 3:25 GMT and 4:25 CET since the time change is done at 2:00am always

Congratulations to the http://www.ffii.org/ and all the European citizens!
:)
Today we're a bit closer to freedom

Maybe in this prequel we could see Jar Jar being born and turning irrevocably to the dumb side of the force
That could be interesting!

Who knows, maybe my paranoia will be justified?
Long live to the computer!!!!
Smile citizen, smile
Hey! Didn't know you were around here. :)

For me the best anime ever is Ghost in the Shell followed by Ghibli's "Hotaru no Haka" (Graveyard of the Fireflies)

As said, not an easy thing
Sending back is OK.
;)

So sending back is ok, up to some point
No need to compile the kernel today...
I just have to download the new FireFox version of the week!
I feel relieved...
Then we should also tax the silly walks and instaurate the Ministry of Silly Walks!
That would be really nice
Oh and put a tax for looking at the ducks in Hyde Park as well
Long live to the computer! The computer is your friend and wants you to be happy! /me falsely smiles (don't want to get killed)
Ping times for that galaxy must be terrible!
Mine does!So it seems they reacted too late, maybe in 24 to 48 hours they'll OK...
