Most of the people I've "friended" are in other States. I never "friend" someone I see more than once a week, because I connect IRL. But I've got friends I've known since 1970 that I keep in touch with on FB. And FB was wonderful when a friend got deployed to Iraq.
Phone screens are okay, but a 7-8cm diagonal screen is too small for anyone aged over 40-45 to be comfortable squinting at: hence the market for larger pads/tablets.
As a 45 year old let me just say: Yes. That's why I don't have a smart phone, and am thinking about a tablet type device.
But entertainment wants to be paid. If enough pepole decide not to pay for it it will go away. Then you stuck watching stuff that is valuable today, but not next week. "American Idol" and the like...
It's not going too far to say that Facebook ultimately wants to build a layer of identity and authentication on top of the entire Web. That may be helpful in some cases; for instance, I'd like to know which Yelp reviews come from the people I know and trust at Facebook. But I don't need it at every site, and you probably don't either.
Because I want a phone that is really good at making phone calls. Like my Motorola V3, on Verizon, which gets signal in places where iPhones (and Droids) don't.
"let their users do whatever they feel like," vs "stable platform". Jailbroken iPhones, which let their users do whatever they like, tend to be more crash prone, at least in my experience. So do Android and Windows Mobile. I don't personally know anyone who's crashed their iPhone unless they've jailbroken it. I do know that it's annoying to have your phone crash when you are trying to make a phone call.
Caveat: Android and WinMobile are stable if you only run apps developed by Google or MS.
Caveat 2: I have a Motorola V3. It's great for making phone calls.

this?
Who are getting pissed over privacy. I'm just unhappy (as a 45 year old) that I have to check my privacy settings weekly, and sometimes daily.
In the Gulf of Mexico!
and try to visualize the sound of one hand clapping. Or with the clap. Or something like that.
Bring bratwurst when flying.
Well, except that 30 years later IBM isn't in the PC (or phone, or consumer electronics) business, and Apple is...
<sarcasm/>
Hmmm. I wonder if there's some connection there?

I remember how much time and money was spent updating software and hardware to deal with it. I remember that despite that there were still glitches.
When CMP shut down Byte right after I renewed my subscription they didn't send me a check, or even offer me one.
its second head there?
Now maybe if they actually enforce it businesses will get the idea that they should protect the data.
more liability against software developers who write insecure code
So now we have to buy expensive insurance before we write OSS code? What about the liability of students?

Faster Forward
Maybe it's because I'm 45, but I've always logged out of FB when I leave the site.
Pity I dno't use my friends...

Long term it'll save lost of money.
