Few, if any, radio stations on that stretch of I-15. Ditto for the Vegas to LA run. Good stations in Vegas, but once you are over the ridges there's little or nothing.
I don't recall the format though. But it does have the option of listing the titles. Haven't heard about searching, but the stations will be divided by genre.
If you want it to be absolutely true to the book, the way Harry Potter was, don't see it. Arwen has a much bigger role, as a sort of warrior princess (Eowyn like) from what I've heard. Also, they dropped Tom Bombadil.

That's what it cost to produce the films. That's a 'bet the studio' cost. If they don't recover most of that cost early, then The Two Towers and Return of the King will be straight to video releases.
Now you can move your vhs tapes to dvd for less than $1,000. The Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge is $300 (it comes with a ieee 1394 card (Lucent chipset)) and converts analog inputs (from the composite video jack on the tape deck) to digital video, which goes over the 1394 link. The VCR looks like a digital camcorder to the card. Be advised that DV takes up about 15Gb/hr.
I have one of those (DVD recorder is on the list to get) and it works fairly well. Get the Pinnacle DVD authoring software ($40 at Best Buy) because the bundled software isn't any good.
Remember when guys with the user names "CmdrTaco", "Hemos", and "CowboyNeal" used to post comments here? I wonder whatever happened to those guys? You never hear from them anymore.
I hope Rusty gets kuro5hin back up. Bet he'll be more anal about backups after this. One of the things I like about k5 is that it reminds me of what/. was a few years ago.
All sorts of high-end 3-d capability in these cards means that the very good 2-d capability (which used to only be in high-end cards) is much less expensive. A card that's Good Enough(TM) for non-gamers (like me) is now incredibly inexpensive. One more step in the commoditization of the PC.
Why do I care? Well, my father (age 72) is looking for a new PC and has budgeted $2,000 for it. He uses it for editing (of Photogrammetric Engineering & Remote Sensing), web surfing, Quicken, and e-mail. He needs the best LCD monitor/card combo because his eyes are 72 years old, but any CPU that's on the market will do. Plus 256 Mb ram, any current hard drive capacity, and cd-rw.
Remember when you couldn't get much more than the basics for 2 grand? I like Moore's Law.
You know, the kind with hands pointing at numbers that are scattered about a dial? They used to be fairly common, and are why you hear about "half past" the hour or "quarter til" the hour. They are also why we use AM/PM instead of 24 hour clocks.
I do. Some of the licenses for proprietary software are laughworthy. The MS Word license used to, and maybe still does, contain a line that went something like "This software is not to be used for operation of nuclear power plants".
In 91 OS/2 was out. It was a 32 bit os with a GUI. Very technically sweet for it's day. It also cost about 5 times what Dos+Windows cost. IBM was held up as the shining example of a company that couldn't market space heaters in Alaska in January. Everyone (except IBM) knew that the pricing was killing OS2. People who used OS2 were as fanatical about it as the Mac users are. IBM could easily taken the desktop if it had lowered the price. It didn't. As Cringely pointed out a month ago Microsoft has succeeded because its competitors have acted like idiots.
There's millions of lines of code. Documenting it would take three guys decades.
Any questions?
That's why cable TV is such a big failure. Because we have to pay extra AND still see commercials.

If you liked WHFS back in the day, one of their former dj's now works for XM.
XM handles signal fade in cities by putting repeaters up all over the place.
Wonder what happened? It'd sure be nice if they told us what was going on when that happens. This isn't the first time.
You have one? Where do you find the time?
For each cup:
Mix 2 tbs cocoa powder with 2 tbs sugar.
Slowly add 8 oz milk while stirring.
Heat on stove, but do not allow to boil!
Add 1 shot of either orange liquer, creme de menth, or Irish Cream.
If you don't like those froo froo 'liquers' but instead prefer real liquor, add 1 shot Southern Comfort Bourbon or Rum
Hot cocoa is made with cocoa powder (2 tbs each cocoa and sugar per 8 oz milk). Hot chocolate is made by melting chocolate in milk. (IIRC)

Note that dvd+rw and dvd-rw drive can both write dvd-r disks that can be played in a standard dvd player. So it's not quite vhs vs. betamax.

Taking a look at MS today vs IBM 12 years ago there are some interesting parallels in the corporate hubris area.
It's the usual ATI thing. The first drivers suck, the second are OK, but the third are very good.
My that sounds familiar ;)

I dunno about you but I don't like killer pings. And why would you time them? "Woo Hoo! I can send a ping 'o' death to Amsterdam in 1 nanosecond!"
