  1. Important point on Judge Upholds FBI Keyboard Sniffing · · Score: 3
    armed with a court order

I don't see anything wrong with the police searching, or spying on, someone if they first get a warrant.

  2. Actually... on Banning Violent Arcade Games Unconstitutional · · Score: 2
Thank Madison. He was the Federalist. The US District court wouldn't have had jurisdiction under a Jeffersonian anti-federalist system. But then, Jefferson was more of a civil libertarian than Madison. It's the balance between the two that's important.

BTW, how did the parent of this comment get modded "off-topic"?

  5. Motion control on Can OO Programming Solve Engineering Problems? · · Score: 2
I worked in that field, and it is very susceptible to OO solutions. A motor, for example, has a max speed, acceleration, position. It moves. Has a set zero position routine. It may move to far or it may stall (error handling routines). It may be a stepper or servo motor (subclasses).

Pushbutton switches can be on or off, lights likewise (same class, sanity checks to ensure you don't read a light or turn on a pushbutton).

Remember, you are dealing with real world objects which have attributes. Look at them from that perspective, and see how you can model them in software.

uploading a new program may be a problem - debugging would be a nightmare

That's why you debug using duplicate equipment on the ground. That's how JPL does it. They've reprogrammed interplanetary exploration vehicles such as Galileo, for instance. It's not a nightmare, but the latency (8 hours round trip to Galileo) is a hassle.
