    bluetooth has built-in encryption, there are plenty o' docs on the subject of how it does key negotiation...

    128-bit encryption sure isn't great... but hey it's something, and the frequency hopping is a nice touch.

    All of the bayarea cities (SF, SJ, Oak-town) are having their own meetup, yet they're all within spitting distance of each other. If they teamed up it would be the largest gathering, and those crazy canucks wouldn't have bragging rights.

    Where on earth did you get that notion?

    I think PayPal was investigated because _IT_ became popular. This forced the government to take a look, so they did... and found no problems.

    The reason it includes more than just the SPARC fix is because Marcelo queues up major additions/fixes for early pre-patches, to allow for more testing. So most of these fixes were probably approved but not added while 2.4.18 was in the 'rc' stage.

    It's just that tragedy tends to focus everyone's attention. Most of the time people are using google to search for their varied interests. I think it'd be a greater tragedy if noone had searched for "the Intimidator" when he died. Atleast this shows that they care.

    This has been around in the form of QTV for quake 1/2/3... which makes it prior art by about 4yrs heh.

    The current iteration is GTV ( http://www.gamerstv.net/ ) and it's used nearly everyday to watch q3a matches of various sorts.

    also.... the 'largest known prime' has all kinds of useful properties... it can be used as a chronometer... a sign that we're still kicking... our rate of technological advancement... a whole bunch of things. (some assume we send multiple msgs with a different 'largest prime'... btw there's a new largest prime since this was published)

    Then again... they won't hear the msg for another 300+ earth yrs.

    If you read on.. you'll see that the second page:

    defines mathematical operators.

    Nearly the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the 2 (superscript)3021377(/) ? 1 was.... its a power with an operation followed by one... and since this whole page was about defining prime #'s... it must be (the largest) prime we currently know of. So the ? was either + or -.. .since 'even' numbers can't be prime... and you can't get an odd number by multiplying or dividing from 2. (And yes i figured that out without lookin' at the solution, in answer to your question 'did anyone figure this out?')

    Anyways... if the alien's had figured this out right away is really not important... its just one part of a very very long and complex msg... hell.. page 8 introduces Hydrogen's spectra... .0001% of the population of earth even knows what this is heh... and only the brightest minds of the alien species will be decyphering this text. If they have the technology necessary to receive this message... then they MUST possess all the knowledge in this entire text.

    Chances are they don't hear the message.. if they do... they might not realize the static is a signal. Then they've got to put it into a viewable page format (for them)... and they probably don't use base 10 as their standard numerical base... oh the complications are endless =]

    Microsoft, being the new guy in the console market would stand to gain a lot of console experience both domestic and foreign, as everyone else has released atleast 2 generations of consoles.

    I don't know what MS's plans are for the Xbox in Japan but aside from shoveling WinCE and win98 in their faces, they have no clout there, and sega is for the most part a Japanese company. I'm sure MS's marketing monkies can figure the rest out.

    I just hope the US sees the Xbox before our eastern partners-in-wasted-time-playin'-dumb-games-crime. (unlike everything else ever released thats powered by electricity, call it jealously)

    I agree, i wish the canidates *could* answer all the questions with specifics. But i think you're asking for too much. The term "republi-crat" holds some merit as anyone elected can only do so much and will go about it in very predictable pattern. I don't see how the canidates could possibly outline in detail how they are going to solve every problem in the universe. You've got to pick your battles, and right now the canidates have chosen medicare, surplus, tax breaks, and govt. spending.
    So for now we've got gore sayin', "i'll fix stuff i haven't fixed in 8yrs already" and bush sayin'... "look at the shody job they did on in 8 yrs time."
    Maybe we din't get a lot of original content from these questions, but i'm glad we got bush to talk about technology and its related issues.

    Obviously the criticisms are going to be garnering all the moderation points in a political forum like this. But i hope atleast a few level headed ppl are thankful to both Bush and Hagelin for atleast taking the time to craft these responses. Aides wrote these, duh, their platforms are well known, there's no reason for any canidate to be saying or writing anything unless they're in front of 100million viewers (exposure).
    All these criticisms have been voiced one hundred times previous, since the days when pres. canidates first jumped on that magic box called tee-vee, so read the responses, be thankful, and decide with which canidate's agendas you most agree.

    A president's success is merely a product of the people he surrounds himself with.
