I already have one up and working internally. The article parser is written in perl, and it spools into INN directories. It parsed the flat 1000+ comment GNOME story in about 5 seconds.

Intel apparently was testing the process, used in the PIIIs on some of their PII mobile lines, and someone forgot to turn that circuit off before they left the factory
Sounds like the Tuskegee Study all over again if you ask me..
If they entered false crap in their profile, I'd like to see them track these guys down going on IP address alone.. I don't know about other ISPs, but my shop's login/radius logfiles rotate out within a month or two.
I do use patches. With the connection i'm on, pulling a kernel isn't exactly a problem either.. It just seems more sensible to not have to download a crapload of SCSI and other assorted drivers if you don't really need them anyway.
Just installed 1.1 last night.. Only one make error (on ksirc), but if you go in and build it manually, it'll work just fine. Only visible bug after installation is that picking alternate desktop backgrounds bombs the display properties dialog (that's probably a libraries problem on my end though).
Has anyone ever considered splitting the actual Linux kernel and all its device drivers into different packages? I mean, wouldn't it be easier to just download a linux-2.2.3 package (containing the kernel itself only) and then download any driver options you may need, like drivers-ide-2.2.3 or drivers-scsi-2.2.3? It'd be a smaller download and you wouldn't have to answer 20 trillion questions in the config.
As hardware support for Linux grows, it'll only make the all-in-one kernel package larger.
And you were right.. Regardless of the stats they post on their website, ICQ popularity is on a sharp decline. They have constantly fudged user signup statistics to make it look popular. A simple sequential scan of their database shows that a significant number of UINs are invalid (sometimes with large gaps where they bumped the number up to reach a certain number-of-users goal). ICQ is the killer app that killed itself.
Is there an open contact-list protocol yet that isn't owned by Microsoft?
You might possibly be one of the sheep that is not aware of the extent GNU software makes things work on your computer --unless you run some proprietary system.
The only forseeable problem with canceling or updating your own posts is that any follow-up/replies to your post would be out there in limbo.

You have to "trick" Windows into crashing? I would've thought that was pretty much a voluntary thing on Windows' part :-)

Congrats to the KDE team on another fine release.

Look on the bright side.. At least you're not administrator of an NT box.

Seriously though, you'd think they would've taken all the y2k nonsense into account when designing a friggin nuclear weapon..

BTW, quick slashdot mention on page 168..
So if it's not GNU, that makes it proprietary?

Are there any (modern) MP3 encoders for Unix with source available?
UltraHLE was some piece of work too.. It plays Super Mario 64 at near-normal speeds (and at higher resolution) than my N64 does.
In the FAQ they say that you can't attend if you're under 21, but then a few lines down they say that everyone gets in for free.. Odd..
