besides... it would change the whole focus of the game. Right now people *play*, do stupid things because it's just what it is - fun. In that game people would be afraid to be hit with a bullet, 'cause it costs money! Games are just games, they are not designed to generate revenue for players. They aren't supposed to be real, or treated as such after all.
So, professoes aren't allowed to get pr0n on state machines. So what? I think, that's pretty neat. They just migh do some *real* work instead...:) ------------------------------------ -------------
First, of all a complaint: WHY THE HECK IS THIS MARKED AS INFORMATIVE +4???
Second, I gotta wonder if Linus just pushed this out the door, not bringing it to any stable state, just got tired of it, and just released it, 'cause it's time - just like M$oft did with win2k. At least, it appears to be so from the linux-kernel mailing list getting a bunch of complaints (the last patch was big, and it broke some stuff).
(but then, again, we gotta let it go sometime, right?)
Not quite forever, but for a while. It is really not something perl or php or asp or the like should be doing, but if you gotta pick something for the web, you might just as well pich php - faster and more friendly, and has had flash for a long time. Better overall. IMHO, of course. ----------------------------------------- --------
Totally!!! Quake is rated as "Another influential shooter". Ouch! It is the next most-revolutionizing thing after doom (and, definitely, wolfenstein3d). Half-life is the best shooter? I happen to own a copy. It is decent, but, despite all the hype about their new animation techniques and super-intelligent AI, it still is inferior to quake3. They have a good mod or two, like counter-strike, but where is the long-awaited TF2? I think, Q3F totally beats TFC hands down, and TF2 is no-where to be seen, and, if tribes2 does live up to the hype, TF2 does not even need to be released. Ever. Which reminds me - where the heck did Tribes go? It is one of the most revolutionizing, balanced and intriguing, though complex, games ever.
And the last. If you go on to mention dune2 (which, I believe, totally rocks the world), you've got to mention a couple of somewhat similar, yet totally rocking things - starcraft and TA (total annihilation).
Yes, they do seem to base their review on what's sold well (unfortunately mostly due to the marketing hype), but not on what's actually been good, what's got good independent reviews, and what's changed the gaming community and will be remembered by the generations of gamers to come. ------------------------------------------- ------
Second that. Matrox Millenium 2 (PCI) has been my card of choice for a while for 2D under Linux. Rock solid, no problems whatsoever, good performance. ------------------------------------ -------------
In Russia we have a saying "The spoon is valuable, but only if it's available by the dinner time" Horrible translation, but that's the way it is with idioms. The idea is that, if you server a spoon when the dinner is pretty much over, you're late.:(
Isn't that the case here? I though glide was proprietary, or at least way too long, and that's why it was not (or could not be) embraced by everybody in the industry. --------------------------------------- ----------
Actually, the above should me re-moderated as "Funny" instead. Even though they have a 17% growth, it is not nearly enough to get investors interested, and on their own power... well, since they are just burning cash away, and don't have anyware to get it from except for the tiny stream of revenue... they are doomed to run out of cash in March. In other words, they are officially screwed. And, if you understand that, you ought to understand that the reply sounds really funny rather than "Interesting".:)
Nobody cares about speed all that much. Go and buy a faster CPU. Need even faster? Add $10 or watever and get another 100mhz on top of that. Still not enough? get more cheap memory and a GeForce2, and you are set.
Now is the tricky question: How can you say 'boost speed by at least 30% compared to windows' That's a bloat. Yes, you can make things run faster than in Windows, but most of your games will find that memory bandwidth for your videocard is the bottleneck, and no matter what you do, even if you rewrite the whole game in 100% pure assembler, with not a single extra NOP anywhere, you are still gonna gain a few microseconds here, a few more clock ticks there... but not a 30% improvement:(
What's really big though is giving developers a stable, easy to use, documented platform and a set of tools, so it is a breeze to develop, not a painful nightmare. -------------------------------------- -----------
Problem is... if I buy paper and ink I might do something legitimate with it, like I can print a picture of my friend and post it on the wall in my office. Now, give me *one* good reason for using a program that "harvests" thousands of email addresses of people I never knew? Can I use it to invite them over to my next birthday party?:)
They're not harboring spammers!! This is about someone who makes a piece of software that can be used to spam. This is the difference between locking up the kiddy pornographer and locking up the people that made the high quality photographic paper and the ink used to create the images! ------------------------------------------------ -
The article says:
"Spamware? Yes. Media3 does host websites which sell software that sends bulk email and harvests email addresses" Yes, that's right. Media3 itself does not spam. However, quoting from RBL description of what gets you blacklisted, "This list is composed of IP addresses that are known to have generated SPAM or Unsolicited Commercial Email, or provide SPAM support services" Doesn't hosting SPAM'mers means providing "SPAM support services"? And what about email addres harvesting software? What can you harvest them for except for SPAM? (BTW, IMNSHO this software should be outlawed as well as SPAM itself for it has ony one purpose - extracting addresses for SPAM'ming)
Anyways, you can't complain that RBL is not fair - Media3 falls right in their definition for being black-listed, and if you don't like it - tough luck..:) ---------------------------------------- ---------
Actually, the complexity is simply *not* there... Once you get rid of all the mechanics - all the moving parts, the rest becomes very simple. THe mouse has a led diode? They are so cheap, it is essentially free. It needs more circuitry? Silicon is dirt cheap too. Design might be more expensive, as designing something new is always an expense, but it is a one-time investment. Once you did it, there are no recurring costs. Notice how cheap you can buy those new MS optical mice! Cheaper than many analog ones!
Second that... MCI switched me w/out bothering to ask me if I wanted to get switched. My rates on calls to Russia suddenly became 5-6 times higher than the special promotion I had (for a limited time) from AT&T - almost $3 a minute! As a result, I got an astronomical phone bill, and they forced me to pay it. Anybody knows how to deal with a company like that? It is pure extortion of money! ------------------------------------------ -------
Wow! Although those pedals look somewhat outrageous, I wonder if I can use them in Quake! That would totally rock! ------------------------------------------- ------
It looks like tocows is trying to get more readers. And what's better than stating that everyone out there sucks and is biased, except... US (tocows that is)! Even if we are offered free software for free, we will still write an unbiased review! We are just honest, unlike everybody else out there! ------------------------------------------ -------
Well, they froze that hideously expensive compound, and say that they didn't expect that. This is the first question that comes to mind!
If you go to3M's website, we read: Key properties: typical boiling point: 155C, pour point: -57C, dielectric strength: 46KV (0.01 inch gap), dielectric constant (1KHz): 1.89.
And they tried to cool it down to -190C!!! HELLO!!! ANYBODY HOME? ------------------------------------------- ------
actually, I would rather imagine the opposite being true. Since Pentium-4 is essentially willamette (however you spell that), it is doomed to suck, and will not clock very well at all. They already pretty much ran out of space for increasing clock speeds with that design, while AMD still has quite a bit of room for improvement. ------------------------------------ -------------
They mentioned that athlons and durons will somehow become mobile. How is that gonna happen, knowing that they consume immense amounts of power? Both CPUs seem to be very bad candidates for mobile market because of the core design.
Wow! Whoever posted the article screwed up the link - it takes precisely 0.34 seconds to figure out what it should've been. Now, just a few minutes after the article has been posted I counted 19 (!) "helpful" replies that direct you to the right place and explain how to get there! isn't that awesome? Do all of you guys seriously expect to be rated as "informative". Well, what can I say, I probably deserve a troll or an off-topic anyway. ----------------------------------------- --------
And what would happen to those innocent souls that do not even know that spam is being sent from their addresses? I mean, how can you distinguish right from wrong and innocent people from guilty, if there is virtually no way to prove that the spam is coming from a particular source, unless you actually seize a computer and manage to dig something useful out of it? (I certainly hope placing bounties will not give more rights to certain agencies to dig through peoples mailboxes in search of evidence). ----------------------------------------- ------- ------------------------------------------
