The establishment doesn't really need a reason to pass repressive legislation. They could very easily tack it on to another bill, as they have done many times in the past. By the time anyone notices, it's too late. That being said, DDOS attacks aren't a great way to get their point across. Last I heard, the Anonymous group decided to stop the DDOS and do what they can to post or spread information contained in the leak documents instead.
It is very possible that Israel would buckle to political pressure from the US, given the vast amounts military aid they have been provided by the US...
Freedom of speech or not, I like to know when my government is covering up things like contractors supplying underage children to rich Afghanis for prostitution.
In many areas of the US, there is no competition for broadband. Cable companies collude with each other to divide up the area so they don't have to compete.
Capitalism also forbids monopolies and collusion, but with the telecom industry, that's exactly what you have. Limited monopolies and in areas where there is more than one company, collusion.
Think of gizmodo (and all gawker properties) as the Jerry Springer or Maury of the internets. Try not to take them seriously. It will only piss you off.
Correction: Some regular people (not gamers) are turning to their smartphones for gaming. Gamers are people that have a discerning taste for games. Smartphone game quality is lacking (as are controls) when compared to a dedicated mobile gaming device. I've tried several smartphone games, and they are little more than time wasters. You play them a few times, and probably forget about them in a week. There are several titles for PSP that I actually make time to play. There are NO mobile phone/smartphone games I will MAKE time to play.
Your average PC user doesn't upgrade nearly as much as your average cell phone user. Most people buy a PC and it serves them for 3 to 5 years. Those same people upgrade their phones as soon as their contract is up. This isn't really a good comparison. More likely, it's just another opportunity for "journalists" to tout the end of something. They really seem to love doing that whenever a new toy comes out. I've lost count of how many times I've been told that PC gaming era is at an end.
The IAAs can't fathom why a person would do ANYTHING unless they are being paid for their work. There is a fundamental difference in philosophy here. These are the same people that think everyone is motivated by the same greed that they are.
I hope this article is BS. I don't want to be a member of the cultural elite. I want to revel in my early-twenties angst! I enjoy being the outcast. I wouldn't be happy any other way.:)

How is paying with cash akin to "living in a cage"? I use cash almost exclusively, except for online purchases, which are hardly a necessity.

How about busting the myth that dumping stimulus money into the economy is the best way out of a recession?
My hands have built-in caps lock. It's called the pinky finger. Good riddance, caps lock key.
