NYT on EA Games
·
· Score: 4, Informative
He graduated RIT with a 4.0 in CS and EA offered him 50k a year with a 7k bonus. They helped him move to Florida (hes from NY) and put him to work doing the layout for Madden 2k4. He hates it since the games are essentially assembly line made. He does very little coding since EA has their cross platform tools and spent most of his time aligning menu items. Last I heard he wanted out. I remember how excited he was to get a "game development" job and was crushed to find out how that means tweaking stupid crap. Now he wants completely out of the game industry.
I have a cat. Have had her since she was 4 weeks old and she'll be 3 in march. I live with the claws because I know that she needs them for defense in various situations (dog, gets outside, falls and needs to grip something).
...everyone's favorite browser Internet Explorer with 15 flaws and Mozilla with only 7.
I don't think security flaws in something as commonly used as a web browser should ever be noted as "only" a certain number. Sure Mozilla beat IE, but the point still remains that it had 7 too many. I'll have to read this list when I get a chance and see how many of those were really windows issues and mozilla just passed the data on.
(And yes I know you'll never have bug free software)
Thats like saying "I work at Microsoft and have been playing with Longhorn for 2 years so its not new" when its first released to the public. To the public this is new.
Beh, too long without coffee... that should be mayor and town board. Don't get me wrong, it is a tremendously liberal town but it is far from a small one. It has a full high school, junior high, elementary school and state college.
The green party does aim local. I was a resident of New Paltz, NY (12561 is the zip) where the mayor town and board are members of the green party. From what I understand this is the only such place in the country, although there may be another town in California.
I've been using Mandrake since the 7 days. Traditionally X.0 is buggy and the.1 and.2 releases are much much nicer. I wouldn't worry about it so much, just don't use it on anything royally important (which you shouldn't be doing anyway if you haven't tested it).
Fry: "So, what's the deal? You guys don't believe in Robot-Jesus?" Jewish Bot: "We believe he was built and that he was a very well programmed robot, but he wasn't our messiah."
Well this was a few years back when I had just started doing help desk and thought it was hysterical. Now it can be rough, although Illiad does manage to slip in the occasional gem.

Dive Into Python

· Score: 4, Interesting
A few years back I needed to develop a program to download all of UserFriendly's archives (ok need is a strong word but thats not important). At the time I was familiar with the normal languages; java, C, C++, etc. I had heard about Python and figured this was something I could use to learn it.
I was blown away. Having never touched the language within a couple of hours of going through the online documents I had picked up enough to write the full script. Once that was done I didn't want to stop. I found Python to be an absolute wonderful language that made programming fun again. Since then I've written my fair share of Python apps to do nearly everything. Infact anytime I need a program that I can't quickly find or isn't out of it's realm, it gives me an excuse to use Python. A lot of the time I lookup a way to do something and sit there smiling to myself going "now thats freaking cool".
I haven't read this book, but from my experience Python is an awesome language. I'm sure the Perl people feel the same way about their language. To me Python feels clean, flexible and productive. Most importantly its fun.
However I don't think this justifies the levels that the anti-moore crowd scream that his facts are wrong. This looks more like Moore style slant then anything else. It did appear in the paper, just not in the same place. I'm not saying its right but much worse has been printed or spoken by his opponents.
We all know Moore is biased. The whole movie was made so that Bush is not relected. While this does shake his credibility in my eyes, it does not change the fact that F/911 was factually correct on the important issues. Whether Moore's slant was correct is another issue entirely.
You're joking right? 9 sources claming the same thing?
I may as well quote 200 articles discussing Bush and his search for WMD and claim that all 200 accounts are evidence of him lying to the american people.

Well yeah if you drive 45 the whole way and stop to take pictures of scenery, then sure 4-5 hours sounds fine.
Hell I live in NY and I can make it to there in 5 hours.

I thought your post was serious until I read this...
Microsoft is the poster boy for patenting anything and everything
*cough*
IBM may have something to say about that...
You have to be kidding me. Google as of yet has done nothing wrong (minus the Scientogist stuff). Keep pretending they're Microsoft.
Wtf does that have to do with declawing the cat?
I have a cat. Have had her since she was 4 weeks old and she'll be 3 in march. I live with the claws because I know that she needs them for defense in various situations (dog, gets outside, falls and needs to grip something).
Then you are an idiot.
No shit. 90% of us didn't have to see it to know it wasn't what it was hyped to be.
Well that is fucking boring.
Did I ever accept any exploits? I just said 7 is too many. Read before flipping out.

Or CNN's search system just sucks?
Firefox also zooms pictures with an extension that takes 20 seconds to install.
Are you trolling or just that uninformed?

So your point is well taken however a bit off.

Very interesting. I stand corrected on this.

I should also point out that every article mentions that the paper "claims". There is no proof. It may of happened, it may not of happened.
Did you even read the sources you linked too?
You're joking right? 9 sources claming the same thing?
