If you just write an application then it will run twice as fast on the ati card as the geforce fx
But if you write two applications to to the same thing and optimize one for the ati card and the other for the nvidia card then the nvidia card does better
So performance wise nvidia appear to be relying on developers to optimise their applications specificaly for the geforce fx. And they probably will get it too given their current market share.
i dont get why manufactuers dont make some sort of standard for storing drivers on the hardware itself so it can either be downloaded by the os or possibly even just executed off the card.

Actualy thats an interesting point. Should I bother to make a special version of my page for older browsers (Like NS4 and IE4) which have frankly awful CSS and DHTML support? Especicaly give how few people still use those two browsers. Or should I maybe have one primitive version which runs in even mosaic etc, and one which works with all the more common browsers which conform to the latest standards? And why cant there be some nice easy javascript way to determine if browsers support CSS2 and other fancy standards?
Actualy I suspect most ISP's probably operate a policy of blocking only problem ports. Imagine how annoying it would be if your ISP/coloc host blocked everything except http, telnet and smtp on the grounds that one day there might be a vunerability in some of the other services that run on other ports... I suspect they wouldnt be my coloc host for long at all
Why does everyone seem to think that the GPL means you have to give away your modificatoins. All it means is that if your gonna sell it you've gotta give the source to the people you sell it to.

Can it automaitcaly re-modulate the phase buffer to route power to the primary shields without someone having to crawl through dark monster infeseted tunnels?
I think the point is that a cloud very rarely rains until it no longer exists, instead, it rains slowly in patches, sheding it's load over a very wide area. With cloud seeding instead the cloud becomes rain very much quicker, so covering a much smaller area, hence flash floods

Common vpn protocols (PPtP) use GRE (ip protocol 47) which isnt used for anything other than encapsulation of other packets, so is very easy to detect
