Palm does not want to make BeOS OSS.

Palm doesn't want BeOS at all. They bought Be for their BeIA Architecture, which is their embedded OS to compete with WinCE, Linux, etc. on portables.

I'm usually rather neutral regarding open vs. closed source, but I think opening the BeOS code would really be a great idea, even if its just a way to provide continued support to the BeOS users out there. I've tried to find out what Palm's intentions are regarding BeOS, but most of the Be sites have gone offline it seems. Hopefully, Palm will release the code, or at least sell it off to someone else, who may want to carry on with BeOS.

Linux really needs something like OSX, so incredible GUI and applications (and support!), that everything you want to do, you can just do it as "point and click".
.. of course people that don't want those automatically installed guis and want to configure everything by themselfs can still install e.g slackware and install all the components they want..

In short, Linux needs to drop X.

Hmm, it sure would be nice if Apple would port Aqua to Linux (or, better yet, open source it).

I believe in order for this to work, you would still need to obtain the volume license version, which is available through Microsoft's corporate licensing programs, which if course would come with its own key anyway.

Maybe if Real Player wasn't an obtrusive, annoying piece of Spyware, it would be installed on more desktops.

I refuse to install it, for several reasons.

    1. It's intrusive - you have to enter your email address, postal code, etc.
    2. It slows your system down with all the crap it loads (ie StartCenter)
    3. It crashes constantly. And when StartCenter is enabled, it causes the system to crash constantly. I don't know how many times I've had people in the office complain about their computers crashing all the time, which I remedied by removing StartCenter.

Instead of whining about MS' bundling practices, perhaps Real should work on improving their product, and removing some of the Spyware components from it.

After all, I don't use Windows Media Player for MP3s. Winamp does that quite nicely.
