I live in Canada, and work in Michigan, and I can see a huge difference between them (it's more pronounced with canned/bottled Coke - the fountain stuff you find in restaurants is pretty similar). The reason I can tell the difference might be due to the fact I regularly drink several cans a day, though.

As far as describing the difference, that's a little more difficult - if I had to I'd say the US HFCS Coke is sweeter, the Canadian sugar Coke is more flavourful.

When I was younger, and we vacationed in the US, I found the US Coke tasted better - that may have been before the whole New Coke/Classic fiasco, though, I can't be sure.

To drag our already off-topic thread even more off-topic, does anyone know if the "classic" branding is being dropped? I purchased some Coke the other day, and it merely says "Coca-Cola" on the cans, no Classic/Classique branding to be seen.

Honestly though, it's not really your fault - Sony needs to decide just what they want the PSP to be - is it a portable gaming machine, or a portable media player? Sure, it can do both, but Sony has to decide on it's primary funciton. Instead, they'd rather pitch it as the ultimate solution to whatever you're looking for - gaming, movies, music - and it ends up not doing any of them spectacularly well.

Relying on Nessus alone isn't much use anyway - basically all it does is compare banner output to what's in it's database. If you apply a patch that doesn't update the banner (say a patch backported to a previous version), Nessus will still flag it as a vulnerability. Nessus is great for identifying potential vulnerabilities, but you've got to go the extra mile and verify that you are indeed vulnerable.

At the heart is VMware ESX Server, which is actually an operating system in its own right: it runs "on the metal," without having Windows or Linux installed already on the system. It also has a service console operating system which looks suspiciously like a *NIX style operating system, so you can SSH directly to the system, cd into your /vmfs directory and, say, scp disk files over the network. If you wanted to.

ESX Server is actually based on Linux - it's a very heavily modified version of RedHat. That's why the service console looks suspiciously *NIX-like :)

The people behind the SA thread have started a Wiki, which also deserves to be in the summary.

I'll be following this closely - I was thinking of picking up a Mini (if they ever slap a Core 2 Duo in the fucking thing), but the Apple TV would be sufficient if it'll play DivX/XviD.

I don't know about everyone else, but does owning a handheld even impact playing games at home? I own a PSP and, quality of titles notwithstanding, never play it unless I'm commuting or traveling somewhere. When I'm home, I have no desire to play a portable system since I can play a more powerful, more immersive game on my TV.

I leave my DS in the bathroom (I have a PSP somewhere, but its just about useless).

Sometimes I'll pick up my DS and play for a bit while watching TV, or sitting on con-calls for work. The nice thing about it is you can close the lid and it'll sleep, so its easy to pick it up for a few minutes, put it down when something more pressing requires your attention, and then pick it up later.

IMHO this article is pretty stupid, though - I consider the Wii to be in a different category than the PS3 and Xbox 360 - the DS and PSP would be in another category entirely.

/Applications on OS X doesn't contain symlinks to anything. Each Application is really a directory(application name.app) - the Finder doesn't display it as a directory, unless you right-click on it, and select "Show Contents". Each Appname.app directory contains the executable and any resources necessary for the app, as well as localization files. This also applies to things like kernel extensions and installer packages, with different extensions (.kext and I think .pkg or .mpkg).

Typical UNIX console apps are no different on OS X than other unices - they actually reside under /private though, instead of / and symlinked (ie /etc is a symlink to /private/etc) - I've no idea why Apple chose to do this. By default, the typical UNIX directories also aren't visible in the Finder.

I believe there was a Linux distro that attempted to do something similar, and if I remember correctly it spammed the filesystem with symlinks to everything. Definitely not as elegant as the OS X bundles.

There's other factors to consider for home use though - whats the cost of keeping the machine powered on all year, versus shutting it down when not in use - if it's more than the cost of a new drive, you're probably better off shutting the box down/suspending it.
