    I'm from Russia and I'm unaware of anyone who would spread such myths.
    To the contrary, there's much reverence to Cyril and Methodius.

    Why, it's quite common for Russian laymen to use 'j' for '', especially when preceded by '' which gets 'y'.

    On a computer, where one uses numbers frequently... especially a phone-type device which involves dates.... hitting the fn button all the time is silly!

    The software automatically switches to the number mode for the fields where it makes sense (of course, developers have to take care about marking up such fields), and pressing Fn twice on an N810 gives you a number mode lock. It's only tough when a cruel sysadmin provides you with a randomly generated 16-character alphanumeric password :)

    Funny that FBreader is an ugly duckling on this platform, it looks pathetic and does not integrate into the normal file opening facility, using a butt-ugly leftover dialog from a dusty corner of Gtk+ instead.
    But my wife does not seem to mind, as she reads books on the N800 all the time.

    Netbeans uses the standard ant build files for its project files, Eclipse uses its own project format. It can use ant too.

    Netbeans appears to be more supported by Sun than Eclipse is. No shit, Sherlock :)

    Yesterday, I surfed the net from a tram. Every Wi-Fi equipped tram here has its own webpage with a dynamically updating list of upcoming stops with ETA, and a location map.

    Sputnik seemed like a big deal at the time, but in retrospect it looks like a very tiny stunt compared to the panic it induced.

    The payload may seem tiny and trivial, but the R-7 that put it in orbit was not.
    More difficult thing was to provide those spectacular breakthroughs AND quality of life improvements for the ordinary people...

    Orkut: Brazilians and nobody else.

    That's interesting. To me, LiveJournal is Russians and little else. The share of Russians there is disproportionally large. There is such a pulling effect when just about everyone interesting and speaking the language posts in LiveJournal. My friend list has mag editors, media pundits and prominent public figures. As a result, LJ is the place to come for all the latest buzz in Russian.

    If all you need is to copy pictures, the phone is probably able to present itself as a mass storage device via USB or Bluetooth, as mine does. Many phones also have SyncML support at least declared, so you may try OpenSync at them.
